Jackie Chan has confirmed that he will star in a Hollywood remake of the 1984 smash hit film, "The Karate Kid".

"I will have a role in the new film, which is yet to be named," Chan was quoted by People.com.cn as saying at a charitable event in Hong Kong Monday.

The Associated Press reported last week that Chan was in talks with Columbia Pictures to play a mentor who helps a youngster stand up to bullies in the new film. But Chan said Monday that he has no information to share on his upcoming role until he receives the script.

The young protagonist will be played by Jaden Smith, the son of Will Smith, who is also one of the film's producers.

Internationally acclaimed star Jackie Chan was back in Hong Kong to donate 300 pieces of winter clothing to local senior residents. The longtime philanthropist has been part of the annual donation drive for 14 years.
