I prefer not to crash my TVPad :) So cheating it will be!

So is it really a beta app at the moment ? This 109 channels app. And no, you should not share beta apps unless you want trouble. And thanks for the info about the TV, I have added it in the main post.

I believe I saw somewhere that there was a way to change the output using the remote, but I might be mistaken. If I ever find it I'll let you know. Anyway, robo_tec alread provided with the alternative.

1 channel ??? You need to press the "Menu" button to get the channel list with the rest of the Cantonese channels. Btw, there is no TVB Kids or Kidsco on there. So for now you will have to do with tvbj2.net or the direct links.

And about movies, there is a lot both in English and Chinese, but it's a nightmare navigating in the Movie Valley app if you cannot read Chinese. I'm slowly trying to build an English tutorial for the Movie Valley app. It's just that time is not something I have much of lately.

Thanks for the info, but I cannot reach the site :( Maybe they are overloaded.

Edit: Oh I can now, false alarm.

Edit2: Nice additions to the TVPad. I had my doubts about the Youku one since I had bad experience with their streams in the past (constant buffering), but I was pleasantly surprised that it actually worked quite well!!!

Edit 3: Forgot to mention that I was able to install the apps from my USB stick. I thought it was autodetect, but I needed to restart the TVPad for the USB stick to be detected.

    Hi

Was wondering if anyone has managed to get the Tvpad remote (new version as shipped with m121) to work fully with a universal remote when learning codes? I can get every button to respond with the TvPad using my URC remote when learning the commands EXCEPT for the Power On/Power Off button. I know it is a long shot, but if anyone has learnt the code successfully on their remote and can upload the Hex values, it would be appreciated.

An even longer shot would be if there are discrete codes or if anyone knows the 'remote codes' in URC Complete Control Program.

My URC remote works fine for all commands Except On/Off which basically means I need to use the original remote anyway.

i wanted to keep the original in a safe place, having a 1 year old son who thinks remote controls make great drum sticks!

    Thamsk in advance

    Jay

My thoughts are thats its a very goof tvpad.. lots of channels as i finally worked out that it was more than one channel per app.. was being a bit thick.

I liked the movie on demand. Watch fa mok lan (Mulan) and it only buffered once towards the end. Shame it did not have engligh subtitles as an option..wife might have watched it with me.

Only thing i'd like to see is a tvbs for kids that way i dopnt have to go to the pc browser for the kids to watch.

Am thinking of recording direct to my media server. but again not sure.

What exactly are your concerns ? Worst case scenario, if it plays fine for Andy it doesn't mean that it will play fine for you. For all we know, Andy has a 1GB Internet line or something :)

How to search in the Movie Valley / Film Valley / 影视谷 app

    MovieValley.jpg

This is just a concept guide. Once it's refined I will add it to the main post. So please provide your input if something can be improved or needs to be corrected.

The Search function within the Movie Valley app requires the use of Pinyin as it's input method. So let's see how this works.

    1) Obviously first go to the Search function:
    IMAG0099-res.jpg

    2) You should then see a search box with a button on the right. Select the button and then press up/down until you see the following:
    IMAG0096-res.jpg

    3) Find the movie/drama on a site like http://www.yesasia.com using plain English. Let's take IP Man for example (click me). Now scroll down to the "Technical Information" part and click on the 3rd tab named "简体中文". You should see that the title has now been translated from "The Legend Is Born - Ip Man" to "叶问前传".

    4) Paste the Chinese title into a Chinese-Pinyin convertor, for example: http://www.purpleculture.net/chinese-pinyin-converter/

    5) Press the "Ime" button on the remote until you see Chinese characters at the lower left corner of the soft keyboard on screen. Now type in the Pinyin word in the Search box, for example "Ye Wen qian chuan" (in my case I only typed "Ye Wen" to be honest). While you are typing you will see the Chinese characters appear in a list for you to choose from, so choose 叶 ... 问 ... 前 ... 传 by pressing the digit on the remote which corresponds to the character (for example digit 5). Use the Page Up/Down key on the remote to scroll through the characters if you do not see the required character in the initial list of 9 characters.

    6) Once you finish entering the Chinese characters, press the Exit button. Then click on the button from step 2 and if you are lucky you will find what you are looking for :)

I might have missed a few things since I'm sitting behind my PC right now and not behind the TVPad, but like I said, it's just a concept.

P.S.: There seems to be an example at the bottom of the Search screen, but obviously in Chinese

Update: Added the step to press the Ime button to choose Chinese characters as input. Also added the info regarding Page Up/Down button to scroll through list of Chinese characters.

I have the Sony Tablet S with built-in IR which has a learning mode as well. I'll give it a try with that and see. Not that it will really help you, but at least you will know if it's supposed to work or not.

It might also be worth it to ask this guy here if you know how to navigate the TVPad official forum: http://tvpadfans.com/thread-1730-1-2.html

I'm on the verge of ordering this and have a question that hopefully someone here can help. I've read in some other places that the unit doesn't work well if connected through wireless (not stable, or usually give signal problems). My internet speed is 28mbps and my place also has very good wireless signal coverage, could anyone here help confirm that they have been running their tvpad through wireless without any problems? If it indeed has problem with wireless connected through the USB port, I may opt for a wireless bridge router option and then connect the tvpad to the bridge through ethernet port. Thanks!

Strange, my reply didn't show up previously. Anyway, that's very interesting, thanks for the info! That confirmed the wifi dongle option doesn't work too well at the moment. May I ask what brand and model your Wifi Bridge is? I'll try to buy it locally here since I'm not from US and the ebay seller you mentioned will charge $40 extra for shipping. Thanks!
