There's no best country in the world .. everyone's expectations and needs are different and those stuff change at different stage of their life ... those stats don't really mean a thing.

Ex .. when you're dirt poor, you worry about welfare being cut, school programs being dropped for children, and health care. when you're in the middle class, you worry about tax increase, job oppt, etc ..

I agree with you everyone's expectations are different. But the stats conducted here are valid since they research the same questions and scenarios in all the countries they polled.

As for your poor example, would you rather be dirt poor in America and still have some hope the gov't would provide welfare or some type of assistance or would you rather be dirt poor in India or another 3rd world country?

  4. This "research" is purely a survey that was conducted. All this shows is what countries most people THINK are the best.

And this "research" is not even proper scientific research. There are no quantitative data, no detailed analysis of the methodology, and no analysis of the collected data. All this is, is an article that was slapped together by some non-scientific non-peer-reviewed journal.

Seeking scientific data to prove a hypothesis is a great first step.

Taking for granted "research", claim it as scientific, and not re-analysing the research, its methodology, the process in which the data was acquired, is non-scientific and very misinformed. And, unfortunately, most people who do not have a scientific background and education do not understand the scientific process of research and are very prone to taking scientific researches for granted. Real scientists take researches with a grain of salt, until the research results and procedures have been scrutinized and verified.

And also, how do you quantitatively measure a country's value? There are so many factors and variables involved that you can't slap a unit of measurement onto a country. And if you manage to do so, it'll have a huge margin of error.

@ Dan ... right on .. since when do people really truthfully responded to a survey .. if you asked a Chinese person in China in the survey, do you love your country? Do you expect them to say NO? Forget about the studies .. even for myself as someone in the sciences .. when I respond to surveys, I don't give them much thoughts. Why? Sometimes surveys are poorly written ... almost to the point where it's driven to get certain results rather than truly getting feedback about certain products. Thus, I don't care .. sit down for an hour and get $250 .. why not?
