Here is another interesting media player that I found: http://www.durianhd.tv/

From what I could gather on the Internet, the device's retail price is $140 and it has a monthly subscription of about $15 though, but they claim that they use their own private servers to stream stuff from unlike the others that use SopCast and PPS apps (P2P).

Anyway, I'm still happy with the TVPad, but it's a free market out there :) So I thought I would share this with you guys.

    Hi All,

I'm a new TVPad owner and looking forward in using this device for many years (my dentist has one and it's funny that all his magazines and newspapers are untouched after he installed it).

    I have a few questions:

    1. Can I insert a TF card larger than the one supplied (8G).
    2. I hear about TVB going and coming back as a revised app. Are these apps stable?
    3. I see that there is a Korean counterpart to the current TVPad. Will there be an app that we can load into our current TVPad (Chinese version) down the road? This way, I can stream Korean shows when my Korean friends are over at my place.

My dad has a Mainland Chinese IPTV box now streaming about 100 + channels and it's pretty smooth with is DSL. I'm hoping my new TVPad will do the same. If this works, I'm looking at pick up another unit for him (he rather watch HK shows and news in Cantonese.).-scooter

No, it's not a new version (although they name it 2). Download this app 港粤快看.pkg (right click and save as) if you want to see the TVB drama's on demand.

I believe so. It does recognize a 32GB USB stick, so I guess a larger microSD card should not be an issue. I can try it out with a 16GB card if it's really important for you.

The TVB live streams have been quite stable for the last months, it's only the Video-on-Demand app (based on PPS) that removed the TVB series lately, but now there is a new app to remedy that.

There is already a Japanese app, so I guess there will be a Korean one at one point as well. In the meantime your Korean friends can enjoy the channels on the PC with the SoLive client (http://www.mysolive.tv/)

    Man Thanks Phantoman!

As a Noob to this device, I have much to learn. Will A larger TF card help with the buffing of videos (more to space to store while it's loading). I wonder if that would help with folks with slower d/l speed. I've been watching the TVB stuff spread between the two apps in my TVPad. Notice one is better than the other. I'm looking forward to the new app. -worship

I hope to also see someday other SA networks like Singapore and so forth.:sp_ike_d:

Is this the new TVB app to run PPS shows on demand?

I seriously doubt that. Let's assume a stream of 300KB/s, then 1 hour of buffering should take around 1GB. The standard microSD card is 8GB which is more than enough. Buffering is normally for a few seconds, unless TVPad introduces a live TV pause feature ... now that I mention this, has anyone tried to pause one of the live streams ?

A question about the TVPad firmware. Will the TVPad allow you to flash the device more than once with the same firmware ? So let's say I update it to 2.7.2, will I be able to update it once more with 2.7.2 ?

I'm just working on an idea :whistling: ... may I add ... which I hope does not brick my TVPad.

Can one "Brick" the TVPad? Will this be covered under their warranty? It is not a hack technically.

No it will not allow you because it will detect the firmware and say you already have the latest update.

However, with my own testing. I was able to upgrade a M120 to 2.72 and a M121 2.62 to 2.72 with the M121 2.72 firmware package. So there must be a way around it. If you want more details, message me and I can tell you how I did it. It may or may not be useful for what you are trying to do.

Thanks for the info. So it looks like it only checks the version before updating. If that's the case, then I believe I can modify the version in the firmware quite easily.

Did you use another method than the standard upgrade procedure ? If so feel free to PM me with more details.

Your assessment is correct. I use the same method you mentioned.

Yay! I have rooted my TVPad (as-in I managed to login as root on the device)!!! I'll play with it tomorrow and see what I can learn from it, but for now it's time to sleep :)

Yes one can brick it. Try to remove the power during a firmware upgrade and you will see. Whether that is covered by warranty, I doubt it. It's not like you need to tell them exactly what happened though :) And in my case, it definitely is a hack.

Please keep us posted. This would be awesome if you can develop (someone can develop) supplement apps to record shows or and other useful tools.

If you just updated to 2.72, you need to reinstall movie valley 2 for it to work.
