That is Awesome Phantoman! Any thoughts of working on the same method for us non-rooted TVPad? I would like to try it too... but without rooting the system.

It will work with a non-rooted TVPad. The process is similar to the steps everybody had to follow to upgrade to firmware 2.72. I'll PM you about this tomorrow, because now I am going to get some well deserved sleep.

I tried upgrading my firmware to 2.72, but it said it failed in the process. When I check the system info though, it says it is 2.72. None of the apps work anymore. I was wondering if it was possible to revert back to an older firmware? I tried to re-upgrade to 2.72 but it keeps failing. Is my tvpad bricked?

Around what percentage did it fail ? The version is read from a text file, so if this file was already extracted during the upgrade process when it failed, then it might explain why you already see 2.72 as the firmware version.

It's correct that you cannot reupgrade with the same version again, the upgrade process checks if the firmware upgrade file contains a higher version or not. There is a way to go around this if your TVPad is rooted, but I guess that won't help you now.

It's recommended that you reinstall the apps after upgrading to 2.72 though, so did you try that already ? The 2.72 apps can be found here.

Edit: Btw, if all else fails ... I can provide you with a custom firmware that will allow you to try the upgrade again, but to be honest I prefer you contact TVPad first to see if they can help you.

I'm not sure what percent it failed at because at the time I was doing something else.. I already reinstalled the apps for 2.72 so I know the problem doesn't lie there.

I contacted tvpad last night through their chat system, but they weren't able to fix it. They suggested that I try to return it.

Is it possible to give me the custom firmware? If I want to upgrade in the future will there be any trouble?

    Thank you very much!

Edit: The model number is M121-3. I also tried to factory reset, but that didn't do anything.

It's really simple. The TVPad believes that it already has 2.72 installed, so it won't allow you to install the 2.72 firmware again. I can just change the version of the original firmware from 2.72 to 2.73. You should then be able to run the upgrade process again (and pray that it works). It shouldn't cause any problems for future upgrades. I upgraded mine like 3 to 4 times already with my custom firmwares when I was doing my tests. I'll send you a download link later on.

Btw, just to confirm the obvious, but does the network test in the Settings complete successfully ?

Yup, and when I plug in my other tvpad (this one successfully upgraded) it works fine.
If the tvpad was bricked, I wouldn't be able to load it up right?

Anyway, thank you so much! This tvpad actually is a relative's so I was worried that I might have to buy them a new one.
It's odd because I upgraded 2 units, before somehow failing this one.

    Thanks again!

Yeah, if it was bricked it wouldn't even boot up. Btw, I assume you were upgrading from 2.70, right ?

Ok, everybody should have received their custom firmware.

    @mintmocha, I'm eagerly awaiting the results :)

Thanks! Just a question before I do this - if it doesn't work, do you think that the factory reset will work after 2.73?

If it fails again then I doubt a reset would help, because it also didn't help last time. Well you can try it anyway.

Edit: Actually, what is the factory reset supposed to do ? I never used it before. I guess it's purpose is not to return you to the original 2.60 firmware, but instead it only changes all settings to their defaults.

I'm actually not sure what it is supposed to do, but the tvpad rep told me to do it while troubleshooting, so I assumed it was to return to 2.60.

Edit: I will try it out in a couple hours!

I'll be looking for the update tomorrow then, because I'll probably be sleeping by the time you do it :) It's kinda late over here ...

My relative called and said they wanted to take it back to the store first to see if they will fix it before I try with the custom firmware. They are taking it back tomorrow, so I should know by tomorrow evening-ish if the distributor can't fix it. I'll post back here with updates. Anyway, thank you very much, Phantoman. I'm sorry I wasn't able to do it today.

I have an older nettop with atom 1.6 OC to 2GHz with 3GB of ram, running win XP hooked up to same TV. Any suggestions on free or cheapersoftware/hardware combo for easy pvr recording? Do I can time shift shows from niji. What's working well for you guys?
