I have an m120 and the remote seems to have stopped working. It lights up red so it has power and is responding to the button presses. The tvpad unit is powering on when I disconnect and reconnect power. Is there a way to troubleshoot this further? Anyway to reprogram the remote as it seems to have power. thanks!

I did not have any use for this yet, so I can't be of much help. I recall some people used to use VLC player for recording during the days of SopCast.

Assuming it's really the remote that died, then I think you would need to contact TVPad to see if you can get a replacement. Or you need buy one of those universal remotes, then find someone with the M120 TVPad remote and reprogram your universal remote.

I have no clue about the M120, so maybe the others have some better advice on how to troubleshoot your problem.

    Feedback on custom firmwares

    Hi all,

If you received a custom firmware from me and you installed it already, then can you please at least let me know if it worked or if you encountered any issues with it ? Don't be like the typical customer ... only barks when there is a problem that he/she can't fix :)

Edit: Oh and if you didn't install it yet, then why did you ask me then ? ;)

I would just like to Thank you for all the hard work that you are doing on this little project. I can't imagine how many hours or days you have spent on this. There are a few of us here that appreciates it.
There are a lot of newbies here recently that just post and ask for help without even reading the first post of this thread. Most of the people that ask for the custom firmware or Korean app from you will probably not post again until they need something from you.

Your custom firmware probably worked for everyone that you sent it out to. They just didn't bother telling or thanking you.
I say if it didn't work, you probably would have all these people whining and posting here asking you to fix it.

I think that you should have a "Donation link" here. I would really like to give you something for all your hard work.

Slightly of the tagent here. I installed the TVPAD M121 in one of the bedrooms (for the folks) using the TL-PA251 from TP Link Homeplug and I notice something very strange. When the TVPAD is on standby, the homeplug goes into powersave mode and the TVPAD loses the IP address so when we turn it back on again and try to use one of the apps it fails (I've check the network setting screen so this is how I came to this conclusion).

So remedy this situation I had to either to turn the tvpad off and on at the plug (tvpad is connect to a separate socket from the homeplug) or instruct my parents to leave it on at the main menu. We chose the latter.

I only log in about once a week mainly to check if TVPad release any new apps. This sounds awesome, so assuming I don't brick it, when TVPad release another firmware and assuming the firmware number is higher than the custom, in theory we can simply reflash it? Because i'm already on 2.72 rather than call the custom one 2.73 would it better to call it 2.725 instead?

I notice this problem too. One solution to this is to turn your TVPAD to standby mode while it's playing something (basically don't go back to main menu when you want to turn it off).
The next time you turn it back on the network setting will remain.

thanks for answering Phantoman. Probably too much trouble to setup a software solution for now. What about hardware? I saw a guy posted he used the Elgato Gamecatcher HD machine to record. Anyone have feedback?

I've browsed everywhere in the Movie Valley app, is there a section or way to only see Cantonese tv drama shows? I found the section which is mainland shows, one that says taiwan/canto but it seems mostly mandarin. I'm able to read a little chinese but have no idea how to write/type to search anything. I just want to see the newer Cantonese tv shows from TVB.

The TVB and ATV channels are working fine, I haven't experienced much freezing or stuttering in the past weeks.

@Katana13: It's quite easy to record streams using VLC player. Recording and stop recording the stream at a specific time period (done by the computer) is a different story. I believe one person in this topic was working on this. On the Internet, you can also find some help about this.

I appreciate that :) But yeah, I have spent too many hours on this to be honest. Hopefully the others who have now rooted TVPads can take away some of the load. And to all, before you ask questions please read the "Hacking Info" section in the main post including the NOTE at the end of it. I'll be updating this section from time to time.

And for now I am doing this just as a hobby during my little free times, so there is no need for any donations. Thanks for the suggestions though :) Btw, not sure if that's even allowed with PA's policies.

Once your TVPad is rooted you can change the version to whatever you like ... assuming you are a little knowledgeable with Linux (if not, I am sure someone can help you out). So I have managed to lower the version in order to reflash my TVPad using the same firmware version. For example you could change the version back to 2.70 and then reflash it with the stock 2.72 firmware if needed (so in a way removing the custom firmware).

And when doing these kind of things you need to make little changes at a time. I do not know what the behavior will be if I would change the version to 2.725. For example will the TVPad think that 725 is higher than 73 ? That's an extreme example, but I haven't really tried to investigate how exactly they compare the firmware versions yet, so in the meantime I better use the same versioning.

    You are welcome :)

Hardware is easy no ? Just buy a digital video recorder. Hell, even use an old VCR if you feel like going retro ... LOL.

TVB Series/Shows and I believe most (if not all) Cantonese movies have been removed a long time ago from the Movie Valley app. I haven't used it since they removed the TVB stuff. Now there is this 港粤快看 VOD app as an alternative (see main post).

Not much problem on my side either. What's the bandwidth of your Internet connection ?

So what happened when you tried the update to 2.72 ? It just gave you a message that it failed ? Did it change the version number in the Settings menu ? And what do you mean by restoring the TVPad ? ... a factory reset ?

Yes I tried factory reset. And after two hours it was still "restoring". So I turned my tvpad off and it was restored. After the factory reset I can update 2.72 ^__^
    Finally hehe

    Hey Superhan.

It's been a week since you ordered. Have you received your Maige TV yet? I am eagerly waiting for your results :whistling:

I did some research over the weekend about the Maige TV.
I think I might know what the device is. It seems the Maige TV is a satellite receiver. This might explain why the picture quality is in clear HD, and why there is a program list for each channel. The origin of the satellite dish and the original satellite receiver is somewhere in China. The dish is pointing to a satellite that is giving a feed to Hong Kong.
Here is a LINK of some of the different satellite IPTVs. It is good because we have a lot of options now.
Here is the LINK of the Maige TV satellie IPTV.
I had to use Google Translate for these links.

Back about 2 years ago, there were these satellite boxes here in the United States that did the same thing. The boxes I remembered were called Viewsat and Coolsat, but there were also more that I can't remember. You would buy one of these boxes and connect it to the internet. The boxes would then connect to the original satellite receiver that is connected to the satellite dish. Whatever channels the original subscriber has on his receiver, is what you get to watch on your box. So the more channels that the original subscriber pays for, the more channels everyone connected to his box gets to watch. In return, everyone pays a monthly fee of $10. The quality of these channels were very good.
I now understand why the Maige TV has to charge an annual fee. I think it is worth the money.

I hope some of you understand what i just explained :wtf:

Just checked, and they added more TVB channels.
