I have a Diploma in Accounting & was wondering what types of accounting positions i can apply for that requires minimum interaction with people. I heard jobs like Accounts Clerk or Bookkeeping is good but what is the difference between their roles?
Also, i'm still deciding whether or not to go to uni next year, but if i do will it just increase my job opportunity? Even if i get a degree i think i would rather work a lower position in Accounting.

YES, you should go to university. it will definitely increase the likelihood of you finding an accounting job. in fact, you will have a difficult time finding any sort of accounting or bookkeeping job without any sorts of qualifications (education, experience, quickbooks, etc.) most, if not all bookkeeping jobs in any corporation requires you to either be a student in an accounting or equivalent program or relevant work experience. you might be lucky and find some small company that requires a bookkeeper without any sort of qualifications, but chances are the pay will be pretty bad ($11 - 14??) and they'll probably look for some desperate graduate/students anyway.

i just realized after typing all that that you already have a diploma in accounting. dafuq? come on buddy, you should know the difference between account clerk and bookkeeping after completing whatever college program you were in. google is your friend. chances are, you will be doing a bit of both since they're quite related. and all positions will require some communication with supervisors, gotta have to suck it up.

and no, after a couple of years of working in a lowly accounting position, you will probably wanna move up and not make 13 bucks an hour. so maybe start working towards getting your CMA/CGA/CA credits in a post-secondary (canada) and whatever it is for CPA in the states.

Seems like all the higher-paid jobs in the Accounting field requires some sort of client interaction or with colleagues. If you want minimal interaction, it might be a lower paying job. To even get a good paying job in Accountancy, you would have to network

It depends on the proficiency level of the person. I am no Accountant, but have studied Accounting. Although it's not as hard as those AAT, I need to emphasis that IT IS NOT HARD FOR THOSE THAT ARE ACTUALLY DEDICATED TO IT.

  8. BBear is aliveeeee, what kind of diploma you have got for acc? Because you really do need minimum of bachelor to find any proper job. but as far as i know with administration you almost always need to have contact with other people by phone or in real life to explain the financial situation to your supervisor or client and in addition sometimes you need to collect data from others to explain the numbers >.<

Bookkeeping and being an accounting clerk is basically the same. You are just keeping a record for the companies transactions. However, the level of communication required varies depending on the size of the firm you are working in. Generally, I feel that communication is important to accountants because you have to find out the source of where the number that you are entering in the books come from, and the only way to do that is through communicating with other from varies departments etc. I think no matter what you do, you need communication skills so.. in my opinion, it might be better to work on it rather than to avoid.
