For those of you that have known about, but been out in the cold trying to get into that collaborative set of torrent sites that specializes in Asian, European, and Exotic films; be advised they've briefly opened registration in celebration of Chinese New Years. I'm not to going to link you to the sites nor even mention their names, because IIRC, that's a violation of PA rules. However, those that have known about them and know how tough it is to get membership (because of their numbers restrictions); now's your chance. For those that don't know, the torrents offered are pretty good, with a lot of other Asian and European media that's not easily found. Happy Chinese New Year (Note to Admin, I've tried to be as circumspect as possible in not linking to another site. However if this message as is, still violates the TOS, then please accept my humblest apologies and remove message).
For Chinese media, yes. but if you want anything else, it's also good to have other resourceful and reliable torrent sites. The exceptional thing about member only sites is that they use a private tracker, which allows them to kick out leeches; thus only members who seed wind up staying. Hence the mindset of the entire membership is to remain on line so that even older torrent titles can be downloaded with ease. Additionally, even if you don't need a particular film I've found them to be a wonderful site for related adjuncts like artwork and subtitle files. They have a very strict upload policy so that all their uploads (regardless of uploader) look similar, making for ease of navigation once you get used to the site.
If it's the one I'm thinking about, for some reason it's still invite only, whereas its sister sites are all open :/ I don't torrent any more due to paranoia (even with VPN), just thought I'd mention an observation.
I don't watch Asian, European, and Exotic films. I only watch English films. I use a torrent site that is open to the public to download and you don't even need to register.
Piratebay. Anymore obvious? LOL Anyways. Some site forces you to maintain a download:upload ratio. And if you're under the requirements, you simply can't download.
That's nice. Then don't read/reply to this thread lol. It's not as if OP was speaking to you lol. Do you know what the difference is between a public and a private torrent tracker? I'm sure you must.
Are guys talking about torrent where they hav that 1 and 1 ul/dl ratio? I fuked my acc a couple of years ago when i shared a torrent that killed my ratio.
Hmmm... I looked at the sites in question and didn't log in, but tried the registration page and like Dan already stated, it still referred me to the "invite only" message page. I posted a message on their forum asking about it; hopefully it's just a glitch. I mean, it's not even Chinese New Year's yet. Sorry for the hiccup. In response to the other stated concerns; yes, they're all private trackers, and no, one should NEVER share a private tracker with anyone. Like Eviltofu stated, it destroys your ratio and it's a quick way of getting banned.
Yep, same site. A real top seeder awardee, eh? LOL... At any rate, I found one way of boosting ratios is to pick a "free" download and "bonus" offerings (items that won't count towards your download totals but will count in multiples towards your upload). That way the file is free and it counts twice or thrice on the upload. From those free and bonus offerings, I also look for the files that have the most leeches; ensuring a steady "need" of my files. At any rate, one of the people over there says that maybe it has something to do with cookie trackers and if you've visited the site before; though frankly I'm not sure why that would matter. Apologies to all if it's still glitched. If all fails, then anyone still interested can try to get in during the weekends, as they seem to "open" up from time to time. Good luck
I used to frequent a site like this back in early high school. I ended up getting suspended cause I didn't reach my share ratio. I stopped going after lol.
My take is this, if my computer is on 24/7, then it isn't really a big deal if I keep a section of bandwidth open to upload the same popular files all day long. For example, from one of the above sites, I've been seeding a Donnie Yen movie collection which is always in demand. Thus, even if one movie doesn't get returned in full, I've more than made up for it by the aggregate of that constant Donnie Yen stream. But, a site like the above isn't for those that like to hit and run; in fact they seem to specifically target such behavior.
To be quite honest, I've always been the hit and run type. I have this huge paranoia that I'll contract a virus or get hacked when I leave my files to share. Especially since before, I knew nothing about computers, I thought it was possible. Now I just stream, so I care less about downloading.
Yeah, it's sort of a trade off between security and getting the odd or hard to find media. Again, torrents aren't for everyone; I limit my risk to taking only Asian or Euro media, nothing American. Of course, that's not a complete risk free strategy as many media corporations today are multinational. Still, it lessens the chances. Streaming is great too if you can get what you want in a reliable manner. But frankly, I've been finding so much stuff that I like, of all places, on YouTube that it seems amazing there's so much free out there for the taking, LOL...
