Fala Chen’s (陳法拉) TVB management contract expiration this May is lurking close. Last year, in order to persuade the fadan to stay at the company, TVB tried their very best to meet all her proposed requirements. Fala reportedly demanded a salary raise, to take part only in grand productions, and that the company must accommodate her schedule so she can film in mainland China. TVB thus quickly provided Fala with the opportunity to star alongside veteran actors Francis Ng (吳鎮宇) and Chilam Cheung (張智霖) in Triumph in the Skies 2 <衝上雲宵II>. Fala was initially supposed to portray a flight attendant, but TVB was afraid that the role would not bring her much attention and asked Fala to become a pilot instead. To please Fala, TVB issued their scriptwriters to change the script immediately. Furthermore, Fala was cast as the female lead in Will Power <傳愛事務所>, starring alongside TV Kings, Moses Chan (陳豪) and Wayne Lai (黎耀祥). But no matter how hard TVB tried to get Fala to renew her contract, she had no plans to stay. An insider from the company revealed, “It’s already been predicted that she would ask for a raise in salary if she were to renew her contract. However, she won’t sign with TVB for five years no matter what. She even demanded that TVB collaborate with Neway, the company of her rumored husband, Daniel Sit (薛世恒). TVB did not refuse, and told her that everything has room for discussion.” Earlier, Fala suddenly proposed her plan of heading to New York to take part in an acting course. Hearing the news, TVB was enraged and stopped arranging new dramas for Fala, and even turned down all her commercial activities. With nothing to do at the moment, Fala enjoyed her time with friends. Last Friday, she was seen eating dinner with Sherry Chen (陳爽) in Happy Valley. Despite being coldly treated by TVB, Fala’s mood seems to be unaffected. Devoid of makeup, she smiled and allowed approaching reporters to take as many photos as they wished. Creds: Next Magazine
Messed up world ... 1) TVB - how can a company control someone's life, so much so, dictates what she can do and can't do? Taking up acting courses will contribute to her future career progress; be it with TVB or not; in HK or out of HK. It's ridiculous TVB is trying to limit her future and close possibilities for her. 2) Fala - demands this and that, so bad that now, she's trying to bring biz for her husband? Paving $$ path for her husband? Where are the companies that's supposed to come out and challenge tvb? I'm sick of both TVB and Fala.
One has to understand how TVB's previous monopoly position essentially allowed them to dictate to their stable; but boy... have times changed. Fala, like many others, realize that TVB is no longer the invincible entity that it once was. Actors and actresses now have a variety of choice. Further, Fala is a native mainlander, and from childhood, lived in the US and studied from one of the best universities in the US. In effect, without even trying, she speaks perfect mandarin AND English. Additionally, she also graduated from one of the best business schools in the country, and it's clearly evident in the manner that she's negotiating with TVB. Moreover, if she is really married into the Sit family, then she doesn't need to do anything except enjoy the rest of her life. That is, she could stop acting right now, and be totally happy with it. Given such an imbalance of power in this process, what exactly can TVB bring to bear that would give Fala any kind of pressure? Absolutely nothing and it shows. If TVB doesn't toe the line, Fala will walk. That is, the usual kind of meager carrot and nasty stick that TVB had traditionally beat its actors with, won't work with Fala, and they both know it. IMHO, good for her. The other rumor of trying to get business opportunity for her husband? I doubt it. Her husband seriously doesn't need any help. If anything, TVB may have offered that as a possibility, as a way to entice her; ie "don't do it for yourself, do it for your husband, who is your goldmine..."
Her singing needs some work, I'll admit. But as far as her acting and decent looks, there is absolutely no reason why she should be under TvB's grasps. Her husband's side I believe is also quite wealthy, so she can look for whatever opportunity she likes if TvB is going to give her a hard time.
