Fala Chen Explains Why She Left TVB

After working at TVB for seven years, Fala Chen (陳法拉) decided not to renew her contract after it expired in May. Fala opted to fly out to the United States and continue her studies. Earlier, it was reported that Fala and her boyfriend, Daniel Sit (薛世恆), had a fight because his parents did not approve of Fala’s spending needs for her new entertainment company. Despite the breakup, Fala maintains a positive attitude and often provides updates via her Weibo blog.

Holly is Fala’s Reflection?

Triumph in the Skies 2 <衝上雲霄II> hit the TV screens today and the interviewer asked if Fala’s own life was mirrored in her character, Holly, who suffers a bad breakup and eventually finds her direction again with the help of Francis Ng (吳鎮宇) and Chilam Cheung’s (張智霖) characters. She responded, “I’ve also thought about this because there are a lot of similarities. Holly lacks direction and only found her confidence when she decided to become a pilot. She’s somewhat like me; we’re both slightly lost but we have ambition, and that’s what will drive me to overcome obstacles.”

When she was filming for Triumph in the Skies 2 last year alongside Francis, Fala noticed that there were major differences between them. During the filming process, she was tired and felt like she was going to snap, unlike Francis who maintained a calm demeanor. It was then she realized that she needed a break from the pressure. However, she does not put the blame on TVB and states that it is her own stubborn personality that put her in this position. “I grasp every opportunity when it comes without thinking whether or not it is suited for me. Because of this, I’ve been exhausted, and worst of all, I’ve neglected loved ones along the way.”

Remaining Years To Come

Dubbed as the second Michelle Ye (葉璇), who left TVB in order to pursue higher dreams and ambition, Fala believes that there are many actors nowadays who simply look for the fame and fortune behind acting. She states that her main goal is to create work that stretches across decades and remain in people’s hearts for generations.

Fala has already spent the last 7 years acting in non-fulfilling roles and at the age of 31, she no longer has time to waste. Putting her plans in action, she enrolled in acting classes in the United States to enable her to continue growing as an actress to fulfill her dreams.

“I am an actress and will continue to focus on my career. The least that I should do is to have a common ground with the audience, instead of continuing to throw small tricks. I left because I wanted to clear the tricks from the last 7 years.”
