I Agree. I watched that video several times and the my impression was that, he looked at her, said something, and then purposely lit the fumes knowing that they would ignite. Maybe he thought it was just going to briefly burn the fumes only (like those hydrogen experiments in high school) and then go extinguish with a popping noise (just to scare his wife) or maybe he knew it was going to catch fire and burn her. Either way, his movements, direction and demeanor indicated to me that it was a willful and purposeful, directed at igniting the fumes.
I just viewed the clip and I believe an argument was probably going on between the two people. Obviously, the guy was stupid but the question is whether he gets time if the wife doesn't press charges.
It would be between him and her only if he did this in his own home. But he ignited a gas pump nozzle in a place of business and public venue, potentially blowing up the gas station. If he did it with intent, he should be charged with a terrorist act or arson. If the wife also lodges a complaint that would the icing on the cake. I'm curious about one thing though; would his automotive insurance carrier be liable in this case? Opinions?
