on the other hand after a year of waiting and helmed by my fav korean director, i just saw Snowpiercer which is a joint Korean/French production and happens to be so far the best movie i've seen this year.

Indeed, I already have the Russian language with English sub version, but I'm waiting for the English dubbed one. The story is a kind of steam punk lord of the rings meets lemony snickett a la Count Dracula; a Russian sort of Grimm's fairy tales with great SFX. As for that Snow Piercer movie, I liked the action, but the premise was simply too unbelievable. A microcosm of human society, with all its frailties, encapsulated onto a perpetually moving train with no station stops, led by an engineering 'genius' that had the vision to build such a train? He would have done better if he hid the train in a tunnel and thought of newer ways to salvage an existence underground (like the movie The Colony) instead of perpetually going around in circles maintaining a warped sense of social balance. Also, given his supposedly superior intellect, what use would he have had for a Party Car, where people are sitting around doing nothing all day but getting stoned? Further, the way that train moved on the tracks was simply in defiance of physics; any train, no matter it's speed and strength, cannot hope to smash through ice AND remain on simple gravity dependent rail tracks. There were so many impossible inconsistencies throughout the film that it was too much of a distraction for me. In essence, a nice meaningless action movie, meant to showcase a Korean media enterprise to a wider western audience (much like that lame Dragon Wars: D-War movie from 2007 tried to do).

  4. i tried to watch Viybutthe subtitles were horrible so i'm going to have to wait a bit. I heard it was shot in English , dubbed in Russian and dubbed back to English lol. As for Snow Piercer, i beg to differ since it's a sci-fi movie i try to put myself in their shoes no matter how stupid the premise may be i thought it was artfully directed with a thoughtful storyline but i do agree the train thing is stupid and doomed to fail from the start.

Yeah, LOL... Those subtitles would have been called Chinglish if this were a Chinese movie. As for Snow Piercer, it was a good time waster. Given the ending, there's almost no possibility of a Snow Piercer 2, and IMHO, that's probably a good thing. In the end...

get eaten by the polar bear? They would have certainly either froze or starved to death anyway.
