Given the fact that multiple examples of video record of the explosion, along with drone footage of the aftermath have now already flooded the net, it would be extremely difficult for the PRC to remain totally secretive about the scope of the explosion and damage. In fact, the news reported that they've already arrested someone that was supposed to have been responsible for the storage and safety of whatever it was that blew up. Whatever this was, it isn't going to go away any time soon.

  3. Wow, I've been under a rock.. only just found out about this from watching "TVB - Scoop" today

that explosion was massive and the damage from the panning drone footage was so extensive.

What was the source? The scoop report reckons it was a hazardous waste type building?

Yea, it's some kind of chemical explosion, the government has sent out people to check other similar places to make this doesn't happen as well. Talk about lack of safety measurements.

I fucking knew it. Even from the video I could tell the site was way too close to the city. So not only did they violate a regulation (as expected) ,"hazardous chemical warehouses" at least 1km away from public buildings feel like it's a bit close. Who the fuck gave the go ahead to build this?

There in lies the rub. The PRC is actually, legally speaking, one of the safest countries in the world... on paper, that is. Pragmatically, what happens is that rules are routinely circumvented, ignored, or undermined by a variety of factors; including graft, nepotism, malfeasance, misfeasance, or just plain apathy. Given the scope and international knowledge, there's going to be a "responsible party" that is going to be publicly made to pay for this tragedy.

Remember the Sichuan earthquake; when all the schools collapsed because of the cheap quality of construction? The government put a lid on it and prevented investigations and lawsuits from happening. Remember the babies who died from tainted milk? They nailed a few people but the government swept just about all of the investigations under the rug. The fact is, the PRC has a very, very long history of cover ups. They make a showcase of one or two unlucky souls and call it justice, instructing the public to never speak of it again. In fact, the things that I've detailed above, are never seen in Chinese news any more.

My guess? The investigation will be wrapped up in a month or so and then the event will disappear from net searches, like all the other things.

Exactly, stuff like these are so common, rules and regulations are always bend and ignored till it becomes news. All over the country, there are similar things going on but the gov't there just give people the run around to different dept till they give up. They always wait till.. (THAT SHITS JUST GOT REAL!!!)

  10. This is far too spot on.... China has rules and regulations (on paper and in principle) however, that having and following them are very different things. It's sad to sad that I agree that this will all probably wrap up in a month (if not earlier) and never to be heard/spoken of again.... too much of this shite goes on in china. Like I said... life is cheap there

My fear of amusement park rides will never go away, and this is a reason. I hate the weightlessness feeling.

And since it's China, you can definitely bet there are scams going left and right. Best opportunity to make money for those bastards.

Not sure what the point of trying to cover up the extent of this explosion is anymore, anyone can guess the number of deaths are a lot higher and the cause of the explosion is due to negligence and zero safety procedures in handling volatile products.
