New medical drama that is supposed to rival that of ER from years ago. First ep was really action packed. This television drama was inspired in large part by a 2014 documentary of the same name. If anyone has the chance, you should catch them both. The above for the entertainment, the one below for serious understanding of what Emergency Care in the US really is, and why the creator (a medical resident in training) made the documentary in the first place.
I saw it and first thought was ER. First episode was non-stop action. I was so caught up in it. It was intense.
In truth, they took a tremendous amount of artistic license and many of the things they did weren't medically sound; however it certainly made for riveting entertainment. Despite the bad medicine, I too was enthralled.
They know most of the viewers wouldn't know much about medical procedures, they just need to make sure it's entertaining and ratings are good. Add a bit of fact and mix it with a lot of drama.
Well, episode 2 didn't disappoint with more action, and the statistics it stated about open thoracotomy in the Emergency Department is correct; almost none survive. Oh, and for those that want to see a real cadaver example of the procedure, there's YouTube videos of course. Rather ghoulish, IMHO... Warning: EXTREMELY GRAPHIC
