Into The Badlands

Did anyone else catch the first episode of AMC's Into The Badlands, which stars Daniel Wu? I wasn't too hopeful that it was going to be good, but I was actually surprised. The first episode had some really good fight scene choreography and the cinematography and set designs were excellent. I also like the blend of kung fu steam punk. And Wu doesn't suck, which is already a huge step forward. Given that this is the same studio network that produces Walking Dead, I'm sure they have plenty of cash so budgets shouldn't be a problem.

Can't wait for the next ep

 

Watched it too, I'm glad I enjoyed it so far cause Hollywood usually don't do well on these type of fusion TV series. The actions choreography was pretty good, those were from the HK side for sure, having Stephen Fung as an executive producer helps a lot, making these things work together with the other aspects of this show.

 

i saw it. i think the show will be a hit.

 

I didn't watch it but I felt they could of used a younger and maybe better looking actor, Wu starting to look old... Just my opinion(probably get flamed for this comment).

 

No need to be flamed for expressing your beliefs; that's what forums are for, the offering of differences. At any rate, I think the show will do well simply because he is older. He will lend a lot more maturity to the subject matter and story line. What I read of the plot lines from various sources were the story is a modern day rehash of that venerable 16th century Chinese tale, Journey to the West. Daniel Wu's Regent character would be perfect as the older guiding force for the younger MK, who has untapped power but is as yet untrained. As is, the story and setting is full of potential and I sincerely hope that AMC will do it justice.

Anyways, when i watch a show, looks doesnt mean shit... well, for the exception of females, hahaha. As long as the show is interesting, i'm all good for it. Yea, gonna try watching this over the weekends too.

 

He probably got the gig cuz he speaks english. =X

 

Watching it right now half way into it. The fight scenes are great, story so far is not too shabby. Would be cool if Stephen made an appearance.

Just saw ep 1. It was okay.

Quinn is the best actor I see in the series so far. Daniel kind of ... Idk(Maybe robotic?).
I didn't like the clothing of Wu and other "clippers".

 

The clothing actually reminds me of the anime Trigun, considering where they roam is called the Badlands as well. Wonder if they "borrowed" it from them.

What I find interesting of this so far is how the slave quarters are so reminiscent of the old south in the United States; the houses between the trees look remarkably like those seen on old American plantations. Even Quinn's character, in terms of dress and decorum, recalls that of the southern plantation owner.

 

Agree, reminds me of the movie Django Unchained. They're obviously borrowing a lot of mixtures of things into this series which ain't too bad.

Luckily it's only 6 episodes so far that they've requested...

 

Episode 1.02 is up and one thing's for sure...

Spoiler: That Guy Quinn

...is one mean and ruthless son of a bitch when he killed the doctor and his wife. Also, what's up with his son's foot? LOL... And he gets off on it when it's rubbed? Double LOL... The part of the girl pretending to cut MK's face, where she cuts herself instead, is so contrived and fake. It doesn't stand to reason that she would, out of nowhere, gain loyalty to this recently found guy over loyalty to her own mother.

 

This series is good, that's for sure.

Just when you thought Quinn isn't all bad, he kills the doctor and his wife. Ryder is a dummy ass, only a matter of time before he ends up dead.
