is this suppose to be a sequel? i'm pretty familiar with Jin Yong works but never heard of this and dont remember there ever being a TVB version
Not a sequel. More like an alternate version. Main story line is the same with some major differences.
1999 was probably the last TVB one as I mentioned. I remember it well since I liked the theme song of that version since it was sung by none other than Jacky Cheung. It had Charmaine Sheh in it too when she was very fresh to the industry and was probably one of the reasons why I've became a fan of hers. This one is probably a more exciting alternate story. The biggest difference of course is the character Charmaine played in the older version as a love interest of the male lead is just a baby in this one (Miu Yeuk Lan).
Why doesn't it feel finished at 30 eps? MDL says it's supposed to be 40. Argh they cut 10 eps from this but the Mandarin version ends at the same point. Just unsure what content was cut since both were 40-45 minutes/episode.
Canto version is 30 while the Mandarin version is 40 so I'm not sure what they cut. I just checked some streaming sites for the Mandarin version and saw it has the same ending point. Can't be bothered to re watch it in subs now...
dam that sucks, thats like 7 hours of content... i just started might have to move to the mandarin version and read subtitles as i prefer longer versions
