Hm.. I liked Cars and POC 3 too, followed by Pride and Prejudice perhaps but I think my favorite movie this year so far is V for Vendetta. I thought it was a really wonderful film... had a great political side and romantic side... Loved the way V was great even without ever seeing his face... his voice alone portrayed everything. The roles and casting were also excellent... I loved watching Natalie Portman as Evey... she's one of those extremely rare actresses who can act well and still look beautiful without hair, makeup, or nice clothes. One of THE BEST FILMS I've seen.
I thought V for Vendetta was great too, even though it did scream 1984 all the way through. Seriously, the producers definitely chose the right cast, as Hugo Weaving and Natalie Portman were excellent in their roles. I read the original graphic by Alan Moore and even though there were several changes made to the movie, it was still awesome. I'm glad they kept the opening line from Shakespeare's MacBeth V's dialogues and speeches were just incredible. Most actors need a combination of facial expressions, body and verbal language to communicate with an audience, but Weaving did it with just his voice alone. Most impressive! Other favorites include Superman Returns, SOC 3, Saw 3, and Borat (MUST SEE - best comedy of the year).
Remember, remember, the fifth of November gunpowder treason and plot. I see no reason why the gunpowder treason should ever be forgot.... Hugo Weaving has one of the best voices in Hollywood imo. One of my fav. lines of the film is this one: Evey Hammond: Who are you? V: Who? Who is but the form following the function of what, and what I am is a man in a mask. Evey Hammond: Well I can see that. V: Of course you can. I'm not questioning your powers of observation, I'm merely remarking upon the paradox of asking a masked man who he is. But shifting back on topic... I also really want to go see Borat. One of my friends went to go see it the other day and he said it was really funny. Also has really great reviews. Yeah, POC 3 comes out in May 07.
Peachey - those were also some of my favorite dialogues And you should definitely go see Borat!! It's probably the funniest movie I've seen in yrs. Definitely worth the money.
The DaVinci code, first movie where i first downloaded but still went out to watch it in the threatres and then brought the dvd.
2006 best movie I saw was Volver (Spanish) and Penelope. Both were at film festivals though...main stream wise I wasn't too impressed with Hollywood this year...
