just wondering if anyone has ever come across "chinese posers" like ppl that state they are chinese but are of different ethnicity?

from my own experiences i have so far came across 2 "posers"

    1. the first "poser" that i've came across was this vietnamese guy that i use to go to high school with, and because i'm in university rite now, i've came across him one day after being in the same lab room, so we started talkin and i asked him wut his nationality was, and in response he said that he was Chinese! and because i wasn't very close with him yet, i was just kinda like "ok cool" but after a couple weeks later, wen i was fairly close to him as a friend, i asked him wut dialect of chinese he spoken so perhaps i could talk to him using chinese, he said he "forgot" , so i asked if it was cantonese or mandarin, he said neither, and after further "interrogation" with him ...lol.....he finally admitted that he is VIETNAMESE, and speaks only vietnamese and english!

    2. the second incident was with this chick that my friend use to go out with (but was only for like 3 weeks..haha), she was kinda short about 5'1, had a slim figure, and her skin colour was kinda like a light brown colour. so that first time that i was introduced to her by my friend, she said that she was Chinese, so then naturally i asked her wut dialect of chinese she speaks, and she says she doesn't speak chinese, i was like "oh okay" and then i asked where her parents are from, and to my amazement none of them even came from china, hongkong, or taiwan, she told me her dad was from the phillipines, and her mom was from vietnam, and she was BORN in the PHILIPINESE! and at that point i was like dumbfounded, and i'm thinking to my self "and how are you even relatively related to being chinese?"

well those are the 2 posers that i have met and seen so far, how about you guys and gals? have you ever met anyone like that b4? share your experiences :)

hehe. Well, sometimes people THINK they are chinese because that;s their roots. It may not be their parents, but great great grandparents.

hehe. I know some vietnamese ppl call themselves chinese and then go around causing trouble. They also tell ppl they are Chinese, so the Chinese are blamed and not the Vietnamese. It is the perception that they are playing.

I think I can spot the asian ethnicity very easily...as soon as they speak b/c most have a distinct accent. Unless they were born in NA. But then there characters shows.

    I'm chinese.

I was born in Malaysia and so were my parents.

    That doesn't make me Malay.

    we're Malaysian-chinese or Overseas Chinese.

No, being malaysian chinese doesn't mean that I'm not pure chinese.

I'm chinese, just that i wasn't born nor have I ever lived in China/HK/Taiwan.

    I do speak a dialect though. =D

I don't speak mandarin either because I never studied the language and my parents never spoke the language with me so i never picked it up.

  20. how do you even go about being a chinese poser in the first place??
