hehe. It preety easy. but it depends on your look and who u are posing to. I think I can pass cause u just tell them, cause of u color most ppl think u are telling the truth...
Hey, it's possible to have parents not from Mainland, Hong Kong, or Taiwan, and still be Chinese. Neither of my parents are from those above mentioned countries, but nonetheless, I am 100% Chinese and damn proud of it. Yes, sometimes I wish my parents came from a country like Hong Kong or Taiwan, but now it doesn't matter. In the end, I am still Chinese. It's possible that this girl that you talk about has Chinese heritage and blood, but just doesn't know how to speak Chinese because she didn't grow up in a Chinese submersed environment. It might also be the same thing with the first guy you mentioned. Actually, with Viets in particular, I have met many that are Chinese by heritage. But because after their families have settled in Vietnam for so many generations (at least 3 generations), they have become assimilated by Vietnamese culture and lost contact with their Chinese history. At this point, it's their choice to consider themselves as Chinese or Viet, whatever they want; however, I think most will choose to consider themselves Viet. As well, you can't always keep asking people if they speak Chinese or not, and use that as one of the determining factors as to whether this person is Chinese or not. Of course, speaking Chinese would be nice and that all Chinese should know how to speak it, but not every gets that opportunity to speak or learn it. As for posers, I wouldn't be surprised that people would try to be posing as Chinese, although I have yet to come across one. These days, many other Asian races have a bad rep. For example, in my city where I live, it's always the Viets getting a bad rep from the intense drug trade here. So, to shift focus away from them, I wouldn't be surprised if they all pose and claim or to be Chinese - which is ALSO not good for us Chinese because it then it gives us Chinese a bad image. I have come across many white people who now believe it's us Chinese who are tainting the city with illicit drugs.
Many claim their root are chinese but since they migrated to another country, they blended in and the unfortunate side effect is the next generation culture got assimilated. So it is small surprise the newer generation don't know how to speak chinese other than what they blend into. But it also depends on their country. If they are a big mealting pot like Malaysia, Singapore, etc. then it is very likely they can speak many dialects and languages plus Chinese. While I admit it is a little shameful to claim themselves chinese and not able to speak the language, they can't be blame if they parents don't value their traditional culture and spend time teaching their children themselves. Branding them as "poser" can't be fully justified. I myself can speak 4 chinese dialects plus English and Malay. Does that qualify me a more superior chinese person? My dad know all the above plus Japanese. ;-)
maYbe the 2 people You came across is Chinese (maYbe mixed) but just wasnt born and raised in anY of the places You mentioned...so if a black guY is born in china that makes him more chinese than the chinese ppl that are not born in china? heh
