People that don't Tip!

    I tip between 10-15 percent of the meal, I am quite patient with service so you must actually try to mess it up for me not to tip....

    if you think that tipping is mandatory then why dont they just put it in the bill instead of having it separate. having that 15% gratuity makes the waiter/waitresses treat the customers better. besides i havent seen any other countries (i.e. in europe) adding tips for their service. europeans love to serve us cuz we tip.

    I usually leave cash tips for the waiters simply because I never trusted the way credit/debit tipping works, as I feel that the boss keeps it (I'm highly against it).
    Tips are very usually given, even if the waiter/waitress didn't serve as great, as long as we got what we wanted (good food, nice place, etc.).
    However, there's been a couple "un-tried" restaurants I've been to where the food plainly sucked, it was overpriced, and the place wasn't as nice. Being supremely unsatisfied, I didn't leave a tip despite the server's effort (I know it sounds wrong).

    I didn't know there was restaurants in canada here people don't tip... well I knew about the tipping means they're paying in hopes you'd get better, guess it's quite far from the big cities.

    I know some restaurants take tax ~_^ but I usually give about 15% tip. Unless the service is noticeably poor. I mean, everyone has a right to be cranky. But as waiters and waitresses- I don't think they have the right to take it out on the customers. As unreasonable the customers are- still have to put up with them.

    I usually tip 10-15% depending on service and how much wine I've had. (Can't figure out 15% quickly in my head whilst it's swerling with alcohol!!!)

    I don't tip if I see a service charge on the bill or if service is so bad I have to openly complain (which is very rare). I usually have a high tolerance with service.

    Philosophically, by definition a tip should be optional and an added bonus for good service. However, it's so ingrained in our culture that I tip as standard.

    You don't tip "unless it's necessary" because you're a student? What the hell does that mean? It's the most retarded excuse I've ever heard. Stay home and cook your own food, then, don't waste the efforts of the waiter/waitresses for serving you.
    Having to think "OH SHIZZITS, LET ME THINK IF THIS ONE IS NECESSARY FOR TIPS OR NOT" is simply pathetic.

    Speaking in your terms, what is "necessary"?
    If you had the decency to think about it, the employee under the "tipping" occupations depend mostly on the tips to bring food to their table every night.
    Develope some compassion, please.

    i sucks wen they dont tip cuz i actually lose money, at the resturant i work at we do a tipout where they take 1.5% of your sales and u have to pay that and it's shared among the cooks, hosts and dishwashers, it doesnt sound like much but at the end of the day it ends up around $10 bucks so it rly sucks esp wen there's a big party and they dont tip grrrr, why do i have to pay them to serve them

    i give tip for a wide range, i don't get about the waiter or waitness looks, it all depends on the services.

    I always give them a tip..."bring the farking food faster" theres your tip now shoo shoo... lol jk ....I usually tip the waiter/waitress good if they give me decent service...all I care about is if i received my food very warm/hot and if they come back and check up on me to see how's everything of if I need a refill...

    My tipping is directly proportional to the waitress's amount of cleavage. lol just kiddin, always 10% unless the service is really good.

    I tip depending on the service rendered. I have met some retarded waiters that really, I am nice enough not to demand for the manager. And wrong dish, and spills (on the waiters part, not my own, of course) should be compensated by complimentary drinks at the very least. In a general sense, I tip quite generously, 20% of the bill for any real sitting dining place (not the fast-food type place). I've tipped nearly 40% of my 200$ bill for some really exceptional service I had the pleasure of receiving.

    That having said, I do have my moments of pettiness in terms of tipping:
    (1) I hated waiters who says "you sure it wouldn't be too rare for you" when I ask for "rare" for my steak, since most likely I will end up having to eat "steaks" with the texture of shoe soles because the waiter is either 1. concern about my health; or 2. think that I am insane asking for rare steak. I hated #2 enormously and really, I will be tipping terribly (like 5% of the final bill, perhaps?) if that happens.

    (2) Another case, in one of the famous Chinese restaurant in Markham (Toronto), I have swallowed half a veggie worm, and when I complained, the waiter's like "that's good for your health" and refuse to take back the order or remake it. I tipped 1 cent for the 50$ meal and never set foot in that restaurant again. I freak whenever my friend ask about eating there since. I never think twice about me being mean for tipping nominally, since I consider them lucky I didn't choose to file a complaint with the authority to close their restaurant.

    (3) I got a pork dish in a pot and the pork is smelly (as in they didn't clean the meat properly). When I inquire about the smell, they said that it is their secret "home" seasoning and no, she can't change it that convinced me she thought "sucker, deal with it, don't bother me" Again, I never set foot there again.

    (4) My tolerance for bad service is even lower in western restaurants. I've been to a VERY profilic restaurant in Toronto. When the waiter sets down the dish, he uses the plate the push aside my cutlery that my knife is dropped onto the floor. Never bother to pretend to take notice, my replacement knife never come until I asked for it. And by the time I get my replacement, my dish is only half-warm.

    In all, I think if a waiter do not get proper tipping, reconsider yourself in this position. Would you tip generously if you are not properly served? I won't, that's for sure.

    Been there and done that and wasn't even getting paid for it (cuz was my uncle's resturant) I know it's hard work so I always tip the waiter/waiteress even if service is bad sometimes.

    You should direct this at the European tourists. It's not their custom to tip. So if you're not going to tip just claim to be European haha.
