I get this ALOT....and since i am Japanese or asians in particular i ALWAYS get from random people "Hey can you help me with my MATH homework/problem?".... ummm.......WTF? Ok, granted, im pretty good with numbers, but to immediately assume that just because i am asian means Asians = Good at Math, Kung-Fu, or broken english Has anyone else here been pinpointed because of a stereotype?!? >.<
so true. but sometimes i even fall into this sterotype and i'm asian. when i see a fobby-looking guy/girl, i assume to hear some bad/broken english ... but when they speak it perfectly i'm like ... whhhoooaaa -shock -shock -shock ... come again??!!
haha... yeah... i got a lot of ppl telling me that i speak good eng... may b coz i dress like a FOB most of the time... n they assume ur rich too coz they think ur an overseas student...
Yeah, I think stereotyping others is just wrong in general, and I have been subject to those Asian stereotypes many times.. But then I mean, if you compare it to the rest of the population, many other races have it much worse (except for maybe where looks are concerned )
Yes yes..I get the samething...T_T...Some mexican dude in my math class would come up to me and be like "Are you good at math?" then i say no then he would be like "Come on now..All Asian are supposed to be good at math!" im like WTF?.. Yup this is Racist!
Agreed. I don't mind it because there's a stereotype for every ethnicity anyway. As long as the stereotypes are good, it's ok. I'd much rather have people think that I'm good in math, bad in English, than for them to think that I'm good for nothing but robbing banks/opening grocery stores.
I can relate. I especially hate the "all asians are short" stereotype and the "all chinese people have small/slanted eyes" <_<
Hm... there are plenty of Asians who are towering over others, so I don't really think that's a stereotype. Isn't the tallest guy in the NBA Asian?
Another one i have troubling understanding...and it is only directed to asian women is that "oh i bet your a great cook" or any dealings with household. you think you have it bad? i admit every race and culture has there merits and de-merits...but nothing stands out as bad as "Oh..i hear Japanese guys have small D*CKS" i will break that silence and say "false" it honestly depends.(so im aware of-rolleyes ) the thing that bothers me most is when people start asking me anime and manga questions like "oh your Japanese...can you tell me again what _____ (insert anime/manga) called that type of defense he used with that spirit ball or some other thing like fire lightening strike kick"....hahahah its so silly, i cant help but laugh sometimes.
people stopped asking me those question once i started college(high school) it doesnt bother me as much as it used to, i'll just bash some random answer and make them think that that's true instead =)
i mean, they don't really use it as a stereotype you know accidentally. they make fun of me at school! haha. cause they know i'm not like that and i'm one of the very few asians in my school. so they say stuff like "HEY YOU'RE ASIAN! YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE GOOD AT MATH! YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO DO YOUR WORK!" haha even tho i AM good at math, doesn't mean anything! lols i make fun of my fellow asians too. if they tell me they're failing math.. AND YOU CALL YOURSELF ASIAN! lol.. It happens a LOT .. but it`s not always bad though.. Asian are smart and they work their ass to do best even the white ppl Knows it similar like All blacks sings wonderfully and wear bling2 But the thing that pisses me off is when i walked quietly on the street and anonymous people would just come and greet "Ni Hao" then when i dun reply they start to greet me in other asian language which kind of a bit annoying Oh if u guys ever watched South Park .. there are one episodes about asian & small dick .. Where all the japanese people were like flattering the whites by saying they have big cock and all.. and got them fooled .. Blah...

agree ppl always ask me if speak chinese but they ask me if i'm from japan. Then i told them: japanese = japan China = Chinese i told them that I'm cantonese but they said its all the same... they wont understand it XD
