I train Brazilian Jiujitsu (Wrestling+joint locks and chokes, NOT Capoeira the dancing martial art!) and Muay Thai Boxing at www.vt1gym.com

We train for MMA competition (You might have seen it in UFC and Pride Fighting Championships).

Most traditional Martial Arts like TKD, Karate and Kung Fu or Wushu is pretty much patty cake bullcrap, i mean, its been proven in the cage, watch any cage fighting matches and you'll soon wake up to reality.

Basic boxing and Wrestling will get you further than any of those martial arts that focus too much on forms, fancy kicks and patterns.

Dont waste your time on that stuff dude.

Muay Thai Boxing, Western Boxing, Wrestling, Judo, Submission Grappling or Brazilian Jiujitsu is the best way to go.

Funny video about the advantage of practising Kung-Fu :)

You need to be logged in for watching this for some reason :p

  6. ill have to disagree.

every martial art has its own unique qualities. if you practice one martial art, to the point where you fully master it, it can be as devastating, or even more than any other martial arts.

well its been proven by cage match fighting eh? fine. but who knows, the fighters may be terrible. just because one person or a few represent the martial art in the cage, doesnt mean the whole martial art is "bullcrap". remember, cage fighters are not masters of the martial arts.

not only that, when you practice traditional martial arts, you do not only practice physically, but you practice mentally as well. they train your discipline, and self control, unlike pure brawl martial arts, that teach you to kick, punch grapple etc. the reason why you dont see winners from the traditional martial arts side is because the masters of the arts do not need to show their strengths thru cage match fighting. its called discipline and self control.

another point id like to make is that, cage matches dont necessarily mean self-defense. take kung-fu for example. a master in kung-fu will have learned pressure points of the human body, and thus, if a pressure point gets hit, it may paralyze or even be fatal. i even have personal experience about it, which i prefer not to share. so the point is, if a true martial artist were to face off in a "cage match", he will only need one opportunity to find a weak spot, and disable the body completely.

problem is, its illegal in UFC, so thats why they cant compete, even if they wanted to.

traditional martial artists that fight in cage matches may not be the best of their art. therefore, it is illogical to judge a martial art based on bad martial artists.

therefore, you are free and have the right to take any martial art you find interesting, whether they be traditional, or modern.

i myself take TKD, which is traditional, and am interested in modern arts, such as Krav Maga, Brazilian Jiujitsu, even "Keysi Fighting System" Christian Bale's martial art in Batman Begins =P

this is not meant as an argument to your post, just as an FYI (for your information) kind of thing =)

I did some Karate back in grade 2.... that was many, many years ago. Now the cloest thing to martial arts that I do is when I kick my car door closed when my arms arm full. Pretty lame, but why lie.

I don't think you should be ashamed of this. Learning any type of martial arts is a great experience. Like it must of been fun as you were a child doing it, so whats so bad about that?

I'm a gymnist, and for the ignorant and close minded, we don't do jumps and twirl a rope around like whoever the -censored started it. I do pummel horse, rings and I'm currently trying for floor (I am trying to work out a routine for p-bars and highbars). I also do hiphop, breakdancing and popping (for those that likes the two to be distinguished). Sadly I don't take any MA, although I wish I did. I also want to learn tricking since it would help me in both dancing and gymnastics. It's my second year for both, I wish I started earlier, because I'd be so much better now.
