She only say because people find it funny and comical. Making fun out of words is unfortunately and fortunately one facet of human behaviour. All languages could be made fun of and indeed are. So hey, Chinese people got to be BIG enough to weather or these comedians, I do! Anyway, lots of white people are learning the Chinese language now and more so than the ethnic Chinese! I went to state school the other day and there was an afternoon Chinese language lunch club, with about 15 students not one is Chinese looking!
The way she cracked her "joke" was not well intended that is why it is so offensive to many. Look at Chris Rock and Dave Chapelle for example: they are successful at making fun of their own race and others as well because it is understood that their underlying purpose is to bring awareness of racial prejudice to his audience through comedy.
