in a relationship.. and your boyfriend or girlfriend.. said that they wanted a break.. what would you think..??

[this aint happening to me.. but it got cropped up in my convo with my bf]

To me i would think that he wanted to break up and see other people.. i think it's a less harsh way to break up.. cuz if you think about it... you won't see much of each other on a 'break' and you'll see other people and they slowly you'll drift apart and then probs end up breaking up!...

    what doyu all think!?

Personally, I think (from the initiators POV) a "Break" means "Ok, we're breaking up right now, and we can go see whoever we want, and if I don't find anything new during our break, I'll come back to you and I'm pretty sure you'd still be there waiting for me."
That's practically what every other person that I know their "break" has turned out like. -unsure

^ yeah i agree with Shini_D. people go their opposite ways, date whoever. and if it all doesnt work out, they go back to each other =T

i dunno really i think it depends more on the situation, as a break to me means like a break for a certain amount of time like a break apart from each other, so i guess it is a subtle way of leading it up to a break up. But it really depends on the situation

yeah it seems that its just the start of the break up

taking time out before officially breaking up
    happened with friends before
i guess it makes it more of a "mutual" breakup as opposed to being dumped

It depends on your bf's character/personality. Sometimes people need time for themselves to do what they want to do, it doesn't really mean that the main objective is to meet/date other people.

But, I do think that if the "break" is too long then it MIGHT lead to a breakup.

its over. Once you break it, no matter how you try to put it back together. There will always be a crack.

    a break is scary business

cause it means that they are thinking of breaking up
and it's just that minor time that things might get patched up

but of course your not allowed to see each other, so you can't do things to make it seem better

it is a testing period to see if you can live without the person
and most of thing if your willing to try, it usually ends up being a break up in the end

something interesting my friend told me
when couples are on a break, and they keep in close contact
they tend to have larger chances of breaking up
because you dont have space between each other to miss each other
instead you just see this suffocating person when you are trying to have some time apart from them

but many couples, if they TRUELY cut off all communication for that entire break time
they have more of a chance of getting back together,
    because it's EXTREMEMLY lonesome
and the first person you think of, will be that person

Buh what happens if the significant other is cheating on the break? Won't that just be heart breaking. Breaks is a hard decision. But then if rules are set, then things be different.

a "break" doesn't really mean a break up...depending on wut the problem is.....there are the kinda "breaks" where u would KNOW that it's a way of breaking up...but there are "breaks" that u both KNOW that it isn't but it's just much needed because there are problems that u just want to clearify by urself...it really all depends...
