As we all know us Asians are expected to excel academically. Not only our parents feel that, but also the entire western society. I know it is not the case that all Asians get top grades - I don't. -boat So I was wondering, how does your grades look like?
pah. i wish i got top grades. parents are always comparing me to some other kid. ugh. must work harder ><;;
My parents used to tell me, if I try my hardest and I get a D, they will not get mad at me; but if I don't try my best, they will be unhappy with whatever grade I get. The effort one puts into his work is more important than the outcome during school years. It builds one's work ethic and character. But the outcome becomes more important as one embarks into the world of higher education & work. Back on topic though: High school: straight A's College: 3.8 GPA Grad school: no more grade system....just pass/fail
at the end of the day, ur grades usually reflect how much work and effort u put in, rather than how "smart" u are... its not like they test u on stuff thats not taught... so as long as u put the effort in to know wats been taught, it should be fine but its normal, being a kid and wanting to bludge n do other stuff, that grades just go downhill. Just have a target u want to get, and aim for that.
o no.. depending on which stage you are at. Some of my exams test things beyond whats taught. And its the smart ones who can think on spot, or the super hard working ones who go beyond learning whats taught that ace. I used to be pretty good at studies. But not doing well in uni. O well..
Actually, I would argue that people with sh1tty grades in high school are pretty dumb in general. No way you can get lower than a C if you at least come to class every other day and do SOME of your homework. High school was so damn easy, I BSed most of my way through. You don't even need to pay attention in class to pass. Plus all that extra credit and sh1t. College is different, though. Pretty hard to get a passing grade in college if you don't pay attention to the lectures. HS gpa: 3.7 College gpa: 3.5 ...probably lower now that I failed my final
i just got my report card last week, and i did very well =D 7 A's and 1 B (stupid English class... 2.5% away from an A!).. so i'm quite satisfied. my parents would obviously want me to get all A's in the 90s, but they're proud as long as i try my best.
i don't think theres any school or class that actually examines u on stuff htats not taught.... theres always the final few qns which are obviously much harder, its just a matter of interpretation and undrestanding it, so that u can do it once u understand it, its all back to the basic concepts that has definitely been taught.... plus as u said, ones who are super hard working, ie they just practice the work, do the homework etc... they work for it, not like they're really "smart"... the "smart" ones dont' have to work.... and uni, uni is totally different to school. uni is abt self learning, lectures are there so they go over the stuff... ur meant to review it urself, and stuff u dont' know, u bring it up in tutes school, ur spoon fed, which is y ur def tested on stuff u learn uni wise, its totally up to u. u can not turn up to class and still get HD, assuming u study urself at home. keep in mind, that in many instances, the lecturer will tell u go read up on certain information, and if u choose not to, then thats ur fault... i know its hard to keep up, i've gone thru it all b4 as long as u know wat u want, and have a target to aim for, i'm sure its all fine
school is super important in our family, and grades are necessary for the expectations for the future careers every child of my grandfather (father's side) has or is going to college all but one (of 10 grandchildren) are either in business(3), engineering(3), medical(3) and one in law school, (yes the numbers dont add up, until you think about multiple majors) only one left out is the one is socialogy (wants to be a social worker) she is looked down upon because of this, but now she's engaged to get married to a guy who is trying to get into med school (so her points are raised back up) in our family status is by wealth and success of children we are the competition . . .
