When I hook up my laptop to my tv via a s-video cable everything seems fine, but when I try to play a movie I can see it on my laptop, but it shows as a black/grey screen on my tv. Any idea how I can fix this?

Set your TV as the primary display instead of the laptop, then the video will show on the TV instead. There's nothing wrong with the computer or tv, that's how it's supposed to work.

It really depends on what kind of settings you have set on your graphics card. you should be able to tell it to force full screen on the secondary display and so every time you watch vids it'll come full on your tv Thats how I have mine set up

lol sounds like your TV isnt set to the right video input. if your laptop is plugged in properly u just gotta select to the proper video input on your television... (ie. Video 1, Video 2, Video 3)

most importantly, does the laptop have tv out? or additional dvi output?

if that is def available, check the video driver settings
the nvidia or ati usually have a separate menu that allow u control the settings via a gui

You'll have to change the setting for the video card. With my laptop, you'll need to extend the desktop and just drag the video to your TV.

Finally ok.. I'm so so so happy .... perfect audio from TV ,
thou the picture only 90% ,still nice & clear..
no complain.. best of all, no more converting, bye bye to CD-Rw

    this is what i do..
right click on destop , click graphic card, choose multiple display ,
then click dual display clone , after i did that , it shows
:: notebook-primary, TV -secondary , default by laptop, cannot change all.

then from laptop, click view ,full screen - on TV ... that's it !!!!

thanks to all members ( Computer experts ) for your advices and guides !!!

    yeah thats normal
the clarity on the tv is due to the tv and svideo connection, rather than anything else...

and u'd want the tv to be secondary
so u can watch on tv and do other stuff on laptop =)

if ur wanting to transfer files between computers
    theres many ways

but either one, u need to set up the network, which windows just puts as "workgroup" as default, which is fine

for simplicity, make sure u choose something for your computer name (set the details in my computer)

then just enable file sharing on the folder(s) that u want (right click properties, file sharing)

then in the windows explorer tab address bar, put in "\\computer_name"
and u'd be able to see wats shared and just drag and drop

of course, theres many other ways, im just thinking this is the easiest way for u

oh just noticed, ur connecting the 2 computers via usb???
u need a network card for both ur computers, and a network cable

actually....there is a usb cable that will allow 2 computers to see each other.
you cannot use a regular usb cable. Not sure how that usb cable works....but I've seen it advertise.

Or use a null cable/crossover cable (internet cable - link below). That will allow 2 computers to see each other.

    Easiest method:
    I'm sure you have a router/switch/hub.
Plug both the computers in using regular internet cable.
Follow Reno's instructions above (simple sharing)
    - note: simple sharing is dangerous. cos if your computer does not have a login/password (especially your administrator account), when your computer is on another's network, they can see and copy your files too!
Copy the files you need and you're done. (I would turn off simple sharing after I'm done).

    Link for null cable/crossover cable:

Hope that helps. If not, try reading up this page:

no pics....but good info for you.

there should be a button on your pc that looks like a box inside a box. Anyways, when you plug your pc onto the tv...try pressing that. Oh and make sure that your tv is either in v1 or v2 channel

When I tried V1 or V2 too, it doesn't work. It only work when it is S-Video.

I don't see any button inside a box in back of my TV.
