Dues and dudettes, does Easter Holiday starts so early nowadays? It's only Thursday now?! Anyway, ontopic: Worst thing about being Asian... There's always some pressure from your family* -even if they claim the otherwise- that you have to get the highest grades and do a business/economic/medicine/law study otherwise you'll bring disgrace to the family. I'm the grey sheep of the family with my Media study. -mellow *my parents supports me fully, they're not the problem but from discussions with other relatives I know they look down at what I'm doing.

But then, if I move my way to the top and end up being a media tycoon, earning big bucks and controlling the media landscape....in that case I can make anyone black if I wanted to by sending journalists to dig up the dirt in those doctors/laywers/business people's past . -cool2

Wow I made this thread yesterday and come back to 4 pages of replies. -clapclap Even though half of it consists of flirty messages exchanged between evil_mui and Ecko -whistle HAHA j/k You're lucky to have parents who support you. But I know how it feels to have other family members look down on you. And being Asian and all, I think my parents would definitely flip out as well, if I were to land some blue collar job (not that I'm planning to, but still, you get the idea). It's worse when you have aunts and uncles who constantly brag about their sons acceptance to Stanford or Yale, and then asking your parents what college their son plans on attending, only to find out that it's some "lowly" mid tier university. It's like, you can almost sense the disappointment in their voices. But I think in the end, it all comes down to doing what makes you happy and not worrying too much about what anybody else thinks. As long as I make enough to support myself and my family, who's to criticize me? Anyway, I just wanted to say keep doing what you're doing, and I wish you luck in your future endeavors
Ah thanks very much! And yeah I recognize that (and I think a lot other too) it's the bragging of the aunts/uncles about their kids that makes you feel the pressure to do better. Can't tell too much on here, for one knows one of my own cousins can be reading this PA forum, but I was glad I found out that all my 3 cousins had to do at least 1 year over in the same grade in their high school. Auntie was looking down at my sis' and my study.
Worst part about being half asian - 1) no one really knows wtf you are until you tell them. 2) people are more curious about the size of your wiener (i suppose this would be even worse if i was black/asian... heheh 'Blazn') Best parts about being half asian - 1) you can have yellow fever without asian guys judging you 2) you can evaluate white women without white guys judging you 3) you have access to a huge cultural history, but you aren't labeled as another ubiquitous chinese man 4) you can pick apart the intricacies of asian and caucasian society with your tweezers of bi-racial authority
