I have an "MSI K8N Neo4" motherboard in my desktop which was connected to my router before it died out. Now when i hookup my computer directly to my comcast cable modem i cant connect to the internet. It has trouble connecting due to the board having 2 network adapters. I have tried diabling 1 of them through windows and through the bios but still cannot connect. comcast dont know whats wrong and both adaptors are functioning properly.

  2. wait... the board has 2 slots? weird... 1 slot on board and one slot on a modem card? or both on the board?

I know Comcast records your mac address, maybe that's an issue.

I went to a new router and it would connect for about 30s, then deny me access. I waited my hr, and everything's been working since.

Turn off the modem and computer for about an hr, then turn everything back on.
Or clone the MAC address of the router to your NIC.

the fact you have 2 network adapters shouldnt cause a problem, sure your pluggin it into the correct one, if you have disabled one?

dont know about the modem you use, so cant help you there, sorry

Yea, you have to clone the MAC address, that should fix most issues.

    same thoughts
im sure u would of already tried the other network adapater?

tho its possible that the network adapter dies yet the mobo still works with all its other functions, then just get a new network card

never used comcast so not sure abt howt hat works, but generally speaking, with or without router shouldn't make much difference to connect a single comp

If you are connected directly to the modem, u need the password to connect to the ISP since you are not using the router anymore.

This is because when you configured your router you entered the ISP password and username. Typically, the address to the router is 192.168.1.1 i.e type that in the explorer. So each time u turn on the router, it connects for you automatically

So I think the solution is to find out how you used to connect to the ISP or call the support line to connect.

    hope this helps

well im not sure of how the setup works over there
but here there is/was no need to configure my router (not that i know of)
iniitally i just connected modem to computer

then wen i had to get my other comps online, i just got a wireless router that connected directly to modem, and comps to router
essentially plug n play (apart from setting up a wireless key so ppl don't scab my bandwidth)

and leaving stuff as default, the router is 192.168.0.1 with subnet 255.255.255.0
and using dhcp, everything gets auto assigned

maybe you should try hard reset your router and also your modem (if can) .. you can try to use window xp to create an internet connection .. if still cannot then you should call your isp to solve it .. maybe your isp problem .. good luck
