well with the supposed "designer babies" i was referring to, its more of
much later in future i guess.... once we can actually fully understand our genome
yes, its been sequenced, but 90% is still like "unknown/junk"
its more of, i want this baby to be "this smart", "this pretty", this color eyes, this tall, this fat etc etc
that all can be controlled sooner or later

^ @ Kdotc> You know that even the child you take part in making (as sperm provider) wouldn't have the exact same gene nor dna as you right? It's only half of that...

wat kdotc was saying, was that he/she wants to make a child with him/her self =P
    asexual reproduction? lolz

^ so kdotc DOES support the whole asexual reproduction thing afterall. I see :p

hmm.. wonder if this method of reproduction will lead to same consequences as inbreeding.. that would be undesireable

Well, I don't know, maybe? But the original article describe the procedure requiring some sperm still... I think somewhere.

^ @ Xiaojia> Possibly, but then there's always genetic counseling, which wasn't available back then. Look on the bright side, your offspring may be supergenius (which has nearly equal chance as malformations due to inbreeding)

  10. you know what... the only artificial process i want in my child is genetic engineering..

genetically enhanced everything... greater than average intelligence, strength, wiener, 5 senses, never rebel and stuff like that lol

^ I think the first few can be done but "never rebel"? It's a matter of how you raise him/her...

    Just thinking out loud

If a woman can get her own sperm from her own bone marrow that would be similar to inbreeding...If a woman were to give her sperm to another woman that would solve the inbreeding problem...but still there would be no more men for lack of Y chromosome...No more men in the world...Who will open jars?

I'm not a supporter of genetic engineering, although I am curious how it will advance.

^ Oh you reminded me, in that case human race will not extinct :p Since you only need women to reproduce women! And we'll just move on to a new container when we can't open a jar, which BTW never happened to me.

An all woman world would never work, you'd all turn on each other. Without men to badmouth, you'd have to resort to solely gossiping about each other.

How would this be different from inbreeding. Couldn't this lead to defects as result of inbreeding?

I am all science so I am ok with it. But I would be freaked out at women who are willing to experiment.

  19. everyone would be virgins in the future if this goes on.. lmao
