^ Yesh. @Dann> And walk 100 blocks just to break the record It's EASY (to me anyways), in NYC, your car's accommodation (parking) will be more expensive that your own if you stay at hostels (instead of W Hotels)
Hotel... it's something I haven't been in for a while. Poor student here, therefore I backpack and stay at cheap hostels How long does the path train take to get to Manhattan anyways? and how much?
um yeah, so your a tourist eh. Damn NYC is filled with tourists. For me since I live in the city, 1. I would go to Chinatown in manhattan for the food cause there's like there are like three main chinese areas and chinatown is the most convenient. Donnot go to HK Station for food-that place is disgustingly dirty, go to Noodletown instead since it's Zagat Rated and the food is delicious on east broadway. I can't understand how people eat that crap at HK Station. Btw there's this "underground mall" called Elizabeth Mall in Chinatown where you can get anime stuff, gifts, and anything that you want. It's small but very HK shop feel. Donnot buy anything from canal st. which cuts thru chinatown cause they're all fake and you have these mando people yelling stuff like "gucci" "prada" and "LV" "fai dolla fai folla," damn they make me look bad. Btw Chinatown is near SOHO- you definitely have to go there for trendy stuff that are real. 2. If you plan on going to ground zero, there's this deli that sells something I refer to as a cookie muffin. Best muffin in the world since it's both a cookie and a muffin baked in to one. Ugh I want one now. It's right across the st. from the Trinity Church and visit Century 21 very good bargainsright across the st. from ground zero. JnR is good for gadgets and it's near there. 3. SHOPPING is no doubt 34st in Manhattan. Macy's, Manhattan Mall, and the greatest view of nyc the top of the Empire STATE building on a cold day Fifth Avenue=high class shopping or don't go shopping and do these things for free like go to the Sony Museum, the Apple Store, or Fao Schwarz, Trump Tower, and central park which is all located in the same area. Tips. ***********Remember to take a double decker bus tour or a decent tourist agency and not one of those in Chinatown cause you really can't trust them. You will probably end up with more stress than fun if you trust them. Ask someone that lives in the city to take you around 2. Buy a weekly mta card unless you drive cause you will save major money on transportation. Have fun though
The Sony Museum is kind of silly IMHO when I went there, good for school kids though. But the Apple store on 5th right outside Central Park is a thing of beauty. I didn't eat a single Chinese meal my entire stay in NYC, so no idea 'bout it -- Toronto got plenty good Chinese food but the Japanese food on 11th or 12th was remarkable And there's that Italian bakery with the absolute BEST cheesecake... I'll come up with the name later, forgot =_=b
Really, what's the place called? If it's really that good. But the muffin I had mentioned is a must have.
Ah here it is: Vaniero's (best bakery in NYC) 342 E 11th St (between 1st and 2nd avenue) recommend: Cheesecake and cookies! Best I've ever had (cheesecake wise, I've had better cookies, only home made though) And you better be equipped with a map and all your wits for navigation -- the whole numbered street thing is kind of confusing if you don't read it right... 4th x 7th can be 2 things =_=b
I don't understand the fascination to Tiffany's, it's just a continual marketing hype =_=b Not a Tiffany fan AT ALL. BTW, Zagat isn't that great an indication of the restaurant, they rank too many restaurants, so they got TOO generous with the definition of GOOD FOOD. But you should look for cheap eats New York City or something, because some of them can be VERY GOOD.
Come on now GPS in the twentieth 1st century lol. No, really a map of nyc and a map of the subway really helps though
i cant recall.... but i remember comparing it to the ttc fare and the go bus fare... around that price i guess? like... 4 bucks? NOT SURE! and as for the duration... its pretty quick i reckon... uncomfortable tho lol worst than the ttc hahaha but its a big improvement compared to decades ago lol
I like my good ol' map plus I get to prove the rest of my friends are navigationally challenged. I can't imagine having a ride WORSE than TTC. I thought nowhere in the world can top that. Though in truth I liked the NYC subway, I guess I was lucky not to witness any unsightly things
you can check online for the price http://www.panynj.gov/CommutingTravel/path/html/fares.html what's the ttc?
Nah, no money for NYC in a bit, I'd rather visit Canada's East Coast for now May return there in a year or so though
^ east coast is cool too. been there. and its absolutely amazing... such nice sights..... peggy's cove... bay of fundy... halifax port... oh man... i wish i was there again.. THE BEST SEAFOOD EVERRRR oh and not to mention camping lol
I am going to be there August -^_^ And COWS ice-cream! BTW, best coffee chain in NYC is starbucks, don't try the others, they are equally expensive and really bad/runny coffee. But coffee in the states are runny in general, we like it dark in Canada~
I really can't the difference between coffees, they all taste the same to me. and Starbucks is Starbucks, it's not like you'll see significant major difference b/t one in Bangkok and Sydney.
Oh it's a store, just called COWS. They got the absolute best ice cream it started in the East Coast of Canada and they now have a few stores around Toronto here and there ^+++^ And starbucks is starbucks? NOT TRUE. The Canadian Starbucks' coffee is much more concentrated (LOADS of caffeine!) while NYC is kind of runny (relatively) The rest of NYC chains are like... crappily runny. SIGH for the coffee addict in me.
