The reason is cause when u install windows, u didn't add the BIG 5 or the other GB characters in ur windows. What u can do is 2 steps. Either put ur windows cd back in and select all chinese characters, or dl NJstar communicator or what ever encoders are out there.

easiest way is to install it using the language panel comes with your xp .. just go to control panel and choose langauge icon .. from there select install east asian language pack

if adding the language pack doens't fix it try to set your unicode setting which is the third tab after you clicked the regional language and set the unicode to chinese (hong kong SAR) or chinese (taiwan) this will however default all programs written with unicode to install in chinese......in not wat somebody said above get applocal from microsoft and use it to run winamp in the unicode of chinese big 5...that should fix it also

I think the problem is windows it self. You have to use chinese windows inorder to have winamp view chinese. That is why i switch to wmp.

i'm sure u know to "search"....

either set ur regional settings + unicdoe to chinese
or install additionally software eg njstar communicator

im sure that winamp itself doesnt support chinese fonts so whatever you do it won't work, i tried what you guys said above ages ago and had no luck =P

and with Applocale its not a app for displaying chinese fonts its used when you have problems running a foreign language app on your english (native) OS

there are some plugins that you need to add that i have found but i havent seem to got them to work and also some settings in the player itself you need to change but i couldnt get this to work either ...... for some reason most people seem to have more luck with the older versions of winamp in the older OS's (98 --> 2000) im still looking around for a solution to solve the issue with the pa radio

True, but it works. As long as the filename in question is unicode based, it will convert it to the appropriate codepage of the desired locale.

I installed the AlbumList plugin and was able to get WinAmp to display chinese/japanese MP3 ID3 tags. But only if the tags were Big5/GB/S-JIS. Unicode tags didn't work.

I've since switched to WMP/itunes because they can display unicode tags.

well, if ur only aiming to use winamp for songs
u can always try ttplayer (千千静听)

    just google it up
it basically does the same job, the default skin looks like media player
most importantly its in chinese, so it displays stuff up as chinese (so i beleive... since i already have the unicode/regional settings in chinese, im not too sure)
but if ur chinese illiterate like me, just keep clicking next at hte install (its not too hard to work out lolz)

additionally, one thing i love abt it is that it also searches for the song of lyrics database, and turns it into a mini karaoke =D well alteast u can follow the words hehehe
