    Yo Peeps
You can either list down ten (10) or less (OK we can allocate a few more if you really can't leave them out of your list) of your TOP favourite HORROR films or list them down with an explanation/review of why they are your favourites.
They need not be 'SCARY' to qualify as your favourite horror movie, just need to be classified in that genre. It could even be a funny horror flick! :)
If you are able to, please supply some information about the movies you have listed, particularly if they are not so well-known or if they are Asian made (for eg. The Ring (Japanese), Tale of Two Sisters (Korean) The Eye (Hong Kong)). Thank you.

    I'll start the ball rolling!

    1. Nightmare on Elm Street series (i found II was the scariest) -Freddy was every child's nightmare!
    2. The Exorcist - Regan with her devilish, twisted face and demonic voice...
    3. Evil Dead (and the zombie series) - I know they are SLOW, but they used to scare me like mad even though they are just WALKING towards you...
    4. The Ring (Japanese version) - that creepy crawling long-haired girl walking right at u and crawling out of the TV!
    5. Ju On the Grudge series (Japanese version) ( i found II the scariest too lol) - creepy crawling long-haired girl AGAIN with the static sound climbing down the stairs... n u just frozen to death...even though the door's beside u.
    6. Stephen King's The Shining (telemovie) - I just love that buck-teethed kid!
    7. Stephen King's IT - Ur friendly neighbourhood clown...
    8. Jaws - we are gonna need a bigger boat!
    9. Saw series ( II sucked... I & III rock)
    10. Mr. Vampire I and IV and other vampire flicks starring Lam Ching Ying (Hong Kong)

    And a few more... :p

    Silver Bullet - Stephen King
    Creepshow - Stephen King
    Underworld I & II
    Interview with the Vampire
    Reincarnation aka Rinne (Japanese)

Can't really gather 10 right off the top of my head, but the following WOULD be on the list:
Kubrick's Shining -- just because that flooding blood from an elevator is a CLASSIC, hands down.
IT -- it's creepy beyond any belief, and yeah, don't watch the last 10 minutes, it's going to spoil the greatness of the film
    The Bird -- It's a nightmarish fest...
Rosemary's Baby -- Creepy, and together with the social tie-in (depression and satanism), plus Mia Farrow is queen.
The Omen (original) -- Grimm reaper? Creepy child with piercing stare? So many later films referenced it... And yeah, the remake sucked, in case it needs clarifying.
Saw -- I think it brought about the trend of torture games =_=b
Nightmare on Elm Street and/or Halloween -- it's the never-ending horror series, I am not sure which one I like better... They've both have their hits and misses...

And for good measure, I am going to throw in 28 Days Later and Shaun of the Dead just because they were the best zombie film/parody I've seen in recent years.

I am having difficulties thinking up recent classics, though Saw is as close to it as it can be, but I am not sure if I like it enough... I am VERY tempted to put in Alien and Cube but I highly doubt that they are classified as strictly horror... @_@b

    Can't forget this two
Poltergeist , Night of the Living Dead

Since there are so many horror fans gathered in this thread, I have a film search (since I forgot the name of the horror film =_=b stupid me):

I remember little detail, but the story should be about a family with a son and a young daughter (I think). There's malicious supernatural beings. There's a shaman (who helps the family) living nearby. And one of the "horror" moments is when the son, who has braces, got wires coming/growing out from his mouth.

That's nearly all I remeber, any thoughts? I am sure there's someone here who have seen this film >_< I kept on thinking and thinking but its title just eludes me TT_TT

Great, another down for my summer to-watch list :D

In that case I think I liked Poltergeist after all :p But really need to re-watch it to refresh my passion (<- it sounds wrong... somehow -tongue2)

I am pretty sure i have watched poltergeist II before when i was young... but i am gonna catch it again since u peeps decribed it so cool Lol.
Oh yeah n the IT ending sucked eh? I agree too. Stephen king seems to have problems with ending sometimes.
Do check out the telemovie version of the Shining.. the kid's pretty good.
Speakin of a recent zombie-like movie, i thought Pulse was good. I kinda liked the idea in Stay Alive too. U play a game, u die in the game u die for real...

Ah i have watched all the above that u have listed except for Cube and the Bird :) but i can't really remember Rosemary's Baby and the Omen anymore... watched the remake of Omen recently but it sucked eh? Dont' forget Friday the 13th if u r gonna list down ur fav. hack and slash movies :) Sometime ago they made one called Freddy vs Jason lol.
I like Shaun of the dead too! It's so funny yet there are scenes which are quite sad at the same time... coz i don't usually expect a character to die in a funny film!
I think the hero's friend got caught n eaten if i am not mistaken.

I liked the idea of Staying alive, but Pulse was disappointing at best (and it doesn't help that I don't like Kristen Bell a la Veronica Mars)

The Japanese original Kairo was a totally different story, but I can't say if Kairo is better than Pulse @_@ It got a very different narration and plot...

I saw a film called Retribution (Japanese, no idea of its original name) and it was quite good.. And Recycle, another feat from Pang brothers starring Angelica Lee, is quite chilling (alas, the ending is somewhat iffy)

Cube was very well made, the concept is brilliant (but the same cannot be said of its sequels...)

Not into Friday the 13th somehow, I guess it has something to do with my obsession with the number 13 (uncomfortable)

Shaun of the Dead was like genre play, parodied all the stereotype and archetypes. The ending was kind of abrupt... and the punch line was fantastic.

Oh why do u find Pulse disappointing? because of the open-ended ending?
I especially find that scene in the laundry room scary.

  15. hiake

I didn't like it because I think they cannot be as stupid as to have a working mobile on that stupid car =_=b Plus I didn't like the anti-social stance of the "cursed" people, they are not anti-social, they are in despair (from what I understand), wasn't illustrated very well IMO.

And yeah, Kristen Bell being the very annoying protagonist doesn't help zip. But it's the usual thing for me (to not like the protagonist)

Ah i c..this is off-topic by the way but there's this book by Stephen King, The Cell. I like it too. i thought it was very similar to Pulse.. and was wondering who copied whom :p

No clue, but then Kairo the Japanese original of Pulse had been around for a while (not as old as Ringu and Ju-on, of course)... But I've read it and it does send creeps... @_@
