so it's interesting to read all these racist threads, and seeing how people are getting really passionate about how wrong it is for people to act this way

then i read posts about being gay
and some people are ok with it, and yes, some people on PA are against that too

do you think this will fade with time?
    like the issue of segregation?

do you think that maybe in 30 years that 99% of the population will be ok with homosexual people?

how do you think religion will follow along with this?

I don't think homosexuality will ever be accepted (that is to say, most people still want to stone them to death, literally) by the majority of the population. Of course we are socialized to act impartial to homosexuality, but many of us, deep down, is still learned (by socialization, since rarely do people nowadays says "homosexual is sin" in fear of being labelled homophobic and "conservative") that it is unnatural and abnormal -- because there are not a whole lot of them around, or perhaps it's that they rarely show themselves? Consider, there are relatively few cases of children being raised in a homosexual (meaning 2 fathers or 2 mothers) household, which leads to the rarity of children being socialized that homosexual could be "normal" too.

I have a feeling I am not making any sense. So let me start a new point!

Religion as a whole will never (that is, in forseeable future -- I am not and won't be sure about a century or two later) back down from their homophobic standpoint, because it is just too easy a way to segregate a group of people and deem them unworthy. Specially when gender and race equality is all the rage, homosexuality will not catch on because deep down, we all need something to compare ourselves to, in order to maintain the superiority and normalcy. Both of which are overrated.

ignorance will always exist and so thus racial discrimination and issues with homosexuals will always be around.

I don't think The Church will ever be ok with homosexuality even though priests are getting caught molesting minor boys.

That is true. Although I must point out that the racial tension, despite the freeing of slaves, is still very evident. KKK still roams, especially in the Southern states -- lynching and torturing of Blacks often had authorities turn a blind eye towards. While the current "harmony" is definitely an improvement from the past, it is still far from the literal meaning of the word. Rarely is a CEO of a corporation being a Black man (I said rarely, not never, since obviously there ARE Black CEOs), and most of the "success" stories of Blacks come either from the Music industry (due to the popularity of Hip-Hop and other traditionally "Black" music), sports and to a lesser extent, film industry.

I personally wouldn't call it harmony, per se, it's a quiet tolerance -- Blacks are still punished more severely than Whites when committing the same (or similiar crime) and often are being outcasted for their social status.

And the sad thing is, I don't think Homosexuality will even gain the tolerance/acceptance in the society as the Blacks does, ever. They may not vandalise homosexuals' homes but I am certain that they will not be too pleased if they know their neighbour, their children's teacher, or the local police officer is a homosexual -- somehow the word "pedophilic" or "deviant" comes to mind whenever one think of homosexuals (which is totally untrue, in case you are wondering). When such distorted image is stuck to homosexuality, it will never be accepted, let alone integrated (into the society).

Unfortunately, I don't think we'll ever live to see the end of racism/discrimination. At least not in this lifetime. But, I do think we're slowly progressing. Racism is evidently not as much of an issue today as it has been in the past, and I think that many of the younger generations are becoming more tolerant of one another despite the social barriers. Usually, it's the uneducated people who are racist due to ignorance.

What pisses me off though, is that while uneducated people tend to be more racist, I've seen quite a number of extremely well educated people out there who still remain ignorant when it comes to issues of race. It's just... dumb. They should know better. But since they're so educated, they already think they do. Anyway, I guess what I'm trying to say is that discrimination will never cease, but I definitely see it decreasing.

Not 99%.. but I suppose it will be much more widely accepted. As to how much more, guess it depends on demand and supply.. lol

More demand for equality -> faster the results and vice versa

^ The problem is that while we strive for equality, we also want to belong to the "better-off" half of the population... And when everyone thinks in that mind set, equality is impossible... Because there's always a "lesser half"

there's always issues from ppl around the world when it comes to race & sexual orientation. Ppl will always have somthing to say and this wil never end.

Why not just let it go and face it? Race and Sex are 2 diff issues. We live on the same planet and we're the same species. We should not discriminate others! Make love not war!

i know this may sound fake or something along those lines, but i'm against homosexuality, not the people. i mean, if i meet a couple who happens to be homosexually involved, i'll still be their friends; it's not like i'll hate them. but what they do is what i'm against.

and no, you can't ever escape from segregation. ever. well, i don't think it's possible. i wish, but sadly it'll probably never happen.

Pretty contraditory. You can't be friends with someone whose actions you don't approve of.

@ch0ps7ix: SF is considered gay capital because of the infamous Castro district and its stories. Plus, it was one of (if not THE) first gay district in the country back when homophobia was blatantly overwhelming.

@chickenutbread: It sounded strange and insincere is all. I mean, if you don't approve of what they do, how can you be friends with them?
