Jackie Chan To Retire from Films in 5 Years… and the Countdown Begins Your English scripts make my head want to explode!!! Chinese action star Jackie Chan, 53, made a startling revelation this weekend saying that he is planning to retire from film making in five years. He was speaking during the inauguration of his fourth California fitness sport club in Singapore on Saturday. That’s only 1,825 days from now, people! Chan said he has earned a lot of money but little happiness from working in Hollywood because he couldn’t choose scripts and has to speak standard English. In fact, he has had to give up some good scripts because of long dialogues. However, shooting movies in Asia grants him more freedom, including choosing scripts and designing moves. Chan said he hoped to find his successors as an actor from a recent competition in Beijing. http://dailydumpling.com/2007/05/02/jackie...untdown-begins/
hhmm ... haven't I heard that Jet Li was retiring too? And seems like he has a few movies after his announcement. Is this one of the case?
Maybe earlier the better for him, he hasn't done anything decent in hollywood or asia for a number of years
Perhaps this is a media stunt to boost expections to next movie? Since in Showbizz there is a comeback after retirement
that's just another way of saying he's old -lol physically he can't make those action films no more...but he'll end up directing more since he won't take part in them... sort of like the route sammo hung took.
I couldn't recall what was the last film I saw of him... most of his new ones got terrible review. Guess it's a smart move having a count-down where people kind of anticipate his leaving instead of "OMG when will this old man leave for good" type. And he can totally have a come back afterwards.
^Damn why doesn't he spend some of that money taking some intensive English language course Then he could probably have more choices. Even Gong Li was cast in Hannibal Rising and her English was quite horrible Lookin forward to Jackie's Rush Hour 3.
^ Not an action movie (nor comedy) fan myself, I only saw Rush Hour 1 & 2 in bits and piece... must confess that they were not his best work =_=b Gong Li was in Memoir of a Geisha and Miami Vice before she was in Hannibal Rising, so lots of big budget film under her belt
Compared to his HK films, none of his Hollywood films are so far his best work. Probably bcoz of his English :( and also less dangerous stunts due to his age. I loved his Armour of God & Project A series. Just saw The Medallion again on TV the other day and was thinking "Crap".
Awww....I like Jackie's movies , I think there might not be any movie as good as his after he retires...
