You might read my post again Taxloss =)

Why would a married couple split the bill? I've never heard of that before. That's interesting. Never seen that happen all the times I was in Tokyo.

@ribsandbbqbeef : Those girls ARE rude. It's 21st century man. Expecting the guy to pay is sooo traditional. Girls want equality but won't work and pay their own bills? Talk about taking advantage. My partner and I split bills when we go out. It feels like we're treating each other. Plus it's less burdening and compromising for both parties right?

My worse experience... Hmmm... When I was with my ex, we'd go meet in a public park to sit down and chat and spend time. The view is great ya know. There was this once we were there, there was this fat indian old man who sat a bit from us, staring at us. We noticed he was doing something else. He was "playing with his thing" and it's so gross. We moved somewhere else. it's a big park. He continued to follow us. It started raining heavily and we ran for shelter. He sat in a shelter a little away from us and continued doing his "thing" until he finished. That's the worse date ever.

@babyrain : No offense gal. Some guys don't mind. Plus you don't FORCE him to pay right? I just prefer splitting. We're both still getting allowance from our parents so our financial condition is only so so. I don't wanna cause him to be broke just because we went out. >.<

  6. I'll pay!! I'll pay!! ...... for that geisha outfit... -evil

I agree that while the couple is still living under their parent's support and in school, or not making a lot of money, that it's less of a burden to split the bill.

When I was dating my wife, her family was much more well off than my family. I felt bad many times because I couldn't take her to anything/place fancy at the time. In fact, she treated me out a lot of times to really nice places. But now that I am working and make more than she does, I try to make it up to her and pamper her....My point is, it may still be hard for a couple to split the bill evenly if the family's financial situation is very different; and it depends on where one goes to spend their money....

However, I adopt a more traditional stance when it comes to relationships and feel that a guy who can afford to pay, should pay. Probably by the time I have kids and they are grown up, that thinking will be outdated.

The advantage of spliting the bill evenly is that the girl doesn't have to feel obligated to do anything for the guy since he paid the bill....

@ribsandbbqbeef : Just curious, how old are you? And yeah, I guess it depends. The thing is girls shouldn't EXPECT the guy to pay. It's fine if they want to. It's fine if they don't want to. No biggie. If both parties are a little short, split the bill. No biggie.

@babyrain : He is one heck of a dirty old man. It's so traumatizing I still remember it till now. We can't leave cuz it's raining like there's no tomorrow and we didn't bring an umbrella. That dirty old man brought an umbrella and followed us. >.<

Hehe, why? do I sound like a kid? lol. I'm between 25-30.

And you basically hit it on how I feel. I don't mind paying. In fact, when a lady trys to offer to pay, I actually want to pay for it more because I feel like she's not trying to take advantage of me.

However since those girls I went on a date with verbalized that they expected me to pay, it just turned me off and made me feel like they were trying to take advantage.

@babyrain : hahaha... If I had money and my guy is broke and STILL want to pay, I'd probably be turned off. Or if the guy makes it seem like I'm not capable of paying for my own meal.

@ribsandbbqbeef : You sound like a college student! So the word "wife" made me think otherwise. But hey, I like guys who remain young at heart. ^^

Haha, youre funny babyrain. Well, a real gentleman would never let you pay. And if he did, at least you would find out he's a cheapskate on the first date instead of after you commit to him. So I guess it's a good way to test the guy on the first date to see if he's cheap or not...

Guys assume that girls are just being polite when they offer to pay. They just want to hear it most of the time. If he calls her bluff and lets her pay, then he better start looking for another girl....

Hehe, thanks. I went to college almost 10 yrs ago, but I admit that I feel very young at heart. I can get along with pretty much anyone of any age as long as I like them =)

Maybe that's why my wife loves me. I'm not a Grumpy Old Man (ever see the movie?)

    ^Yes it's always a test. ;)
I'll be like "So how much is my share?" or "How much do I owe u?"
and he SHOULD be like "It's OK, it's on me" or "Don't mention it"
then i'll be like smiling, "Aw thanks".
If it goes, "Ur share.. just give me $20 that's enough"
he's so not going into my list of 'guys to be considered for more dates'.
