There are different degrees of depression and even the best of us are overcomed with the stress that we encounter in on daily lives. Stress is a key factor for depression. This can be emotional stress, mental stress or physical stress. I think several people mention sleeping as a way to counter depression. Well the fact is that those who tend to sleep a lot especially during unsual times are the ones with depressive symptoms. With that being said sleeping for example during unusual times in the day consistently is a sign of depression.
Genetics also is a factor in depressive symptoms. Often times clinical therapy and medication is needed.

    For less severe cases.
Talk to someone. Talk about whats bothering you. Holding back your anger, confusion, feelings etc.. is causing stress to build up.
Surround yourself with positive people. Go out with friends, hangout, watch a comedy. Listen to music. Good old fun will help relieve your depression.
Like many of you mentioned, working out.
There were a lot of good ideas mentioned in this thread, but sleeping to hide from your problems should not be the answer. Sleeping at unusual hours during the day for long periods of time is a defensive mechansim we use to cope with our depression, but it doesnt fix anything. Sleeping will only make you more tired, sluggish, lazy, unproductive and it even messes up your sleeping cycle. Be active, be social, Be productive. I admit i take naps all the time, but thats because I wake up early in the morning for either work or for classes. The Nap allows me to recover from a lack of sleep.

Last night I just took it out on the road. I usually just take it out on the road, even though I know that I really shouldn't because not only am I endangering my own life, but the lives of many others as well. But sometimes, it really helps relieve my stress.

So since you're double majoring in psychology, I guess I'll have to take your word for it? -rolleyes

You're right; you shouldn't have driven when you were frustrated. You transfer your frustration on to the road, leading to road rage, which, in a lot of cases, causes accidents.

Whatever you're frustrated over, always take a step back and have a plan on how to attack your frustrations. You may be overwhelmed with the problems that you've encountered in one day, but once you break them down into little pieces and deal with each problem on its own, it won't be so overwhelming.

If it's something that you can't solve right away, you need to get away from your car, take deep breaths, have some ice cream or candy (sugar makes you happy), and calm down. Always remember that when you're taking your frustrations out on the road, there are other people who worry about you. That should prevent you from taking it all out on the road.

And if all else fails, go to the gym. I've recently taken up boxing, and that helps when I'm really mad. That, or I just go out for a 10 mile run... after that, you'll be too tired to even think about what's wrong.

Hope you got through the night ok..
