Because there's such thing called "longevity noodle" if you look for them in really Chinese places. It's something resembling e-fu noodle but come in circular blocks like cheese. But no idea where that thought come from
It's basically served as a symbol of longevity - served in long strands, and you are not supposed to cut it. Not too sure about Hiake's ee-fu noodles in blocks, but those i normally see, are made with the normal yellow noodles / spaghetti - could be fried with veg or in some broth, depending on the individual's family.
Most longevity noodles I saw/ate are soup based since frying will likely break them in pieces @_@b And the soup would be quite light, just a dab of salt. I have heard of a sweet variety of the noodle but never have a chance to try it.
never know that we do our birthday in asian culture!! but i heard about that before..when you reach your 50 years old, your family will do your birthday and will bring you noodles and tea
Well I guess the birthday tradition had became very Westernized for most of the oversea Chinese... but NEVER heard of the noodle thing sounded off, oddly.
Yeah never heard of eating noodles on birthday or 50 yr old birthday. I remember hearing Longevity Noodles in TVB. So sad, yet I really want cake for my birthday though.-bday
ask ur grandma and grandpa..this is a really old tradition..usually u shouldn't make ur birthday before reach an certain age because before ppl keep saying that if u do it u will die soon -er
It's just one of those Chinese people have made up throughout history. Kind of equivalent to old wives tales. kinda.
