Police in Florida were embarrassed when a driver with no arms and just one leg lost them in a high-speed chase - again. Officers say the driver was Michael Wiley, 40, who overcame three amputations and taught himself to drive with stumps. He has since become one of Pasco County's most prolific traffic offenders, reports the St Petersburg Times. A police officer in New Port Richey, Miami, says he spotted Wiley in a suspicious vehicle - a blue Ford Explorer - outside a convenience store. When the officer went to investigate, the Explorer took off, leading police on an eight minute chase before losing its pursuers. Police are now seeking an arrest warrant for Wiley who, in 1998, led police deputies in a 120mph police chase down Interstate 75. According to court records, Wiley has stolen a car, kicked a state trooper and attacked his wife headfirst. He is awaiting trial on separate drug and illegal-driving charges and faces up to five years in prison. "He is one of the best drivers I've ever seen in my life, " said Lee Michie, a longtime acquaintance. "But he's the worst person I've ever met." credit to smiley from AF
when you are on the run from the law; you don't have any worries of anything. a few things can happen ... 1) take the risk and outrun 2) captured and go to jail or 3) crash and die. that is why you can push the limits. but if you are a cop, you have family to go home to, you have to think of public safety etc; hence the more defensive driving. my 2 cents
ahhaa lighter car = faster acceleration too =) and then he probably just does all these cool weight shifts and drifts the car around hehehe
I will be sick to see him on an episode of Cops-he gets out of the car after crashing and starts hopping with one leg.
Like this "The Paradox of Michael Wiley, then, goes something like this: 1. Driving makes him feel free. 2. Driving puts him in jail." from an artical from 8/06
