An 18-year-old schoolgirl was saved by her umbrella when she was blown off a six-storey building in China.

Zhang Haijing’s umbrella slowed her fall and allowed her to land relatively softly, reports the Today Morning Express.

Zhang, from Jingning County in Zhejiang Province, was soaked when she was caught in rain on her way home from school.

She decided to wash and dry her clothes in a laundry at the top of a six storey building but was blown off a slippery walkway by a sudden gust of wind.

The wind caught her raised umbrella and blew her over the edge of the building but she managed to cling on to the umbrella as she fell.

It slowed her descent and she landed in the soft soil of a waterlogged vegetable garden.

Zhang is now stable in hospital after undergoing a number of operations for her injuries.

Her family are appealing for help to allow her to continue her studies as they have spent all of their savings on her medical bills.

Haha, yeah, I tried it too when I was small but I jumped off the sofa or the bed of my parents instead of a roof. (I was totally aware it was dangerous if I jumped off the balcony...)

@knoctur_nal: I guess I was fortunate. Even till this day, my mother doesnt know that I did that..-lol

@taxloss: As a kid, I thought that if the umbrella was that big, it would work.. I should've done a test jump first like how you did..lol

Wow, she is really lucky. Unfortunately, Tarzan isn't that lucky when we continue logging the woods in the Amazone:

LOL I didn't even notice that. The "she landed in the soft soil of a waterlogged vegetable garden" made it seem like she just dusted herself off.

I didn't try this as a kid, but I used to backflip off my bed and the couch trying to copy Jackie Chan. The more they tell you its dangerous the more kids liek to try it ;)

EDIT: I really like the WWF ad up above...Im studying graphic design and I can use it as one of my samples in this week's homework :D TY for the post
