Okie...now hear Phyphy's story...lol...ehhem... Last Friday I went to a Family gathering party with my parents, there were many of their friends and extended family there... You know all those big chinese resturants that are called *cha lau* in cantonese?...anyhow...i was sitting with my mum and dad and there were about 10 people per table...my parents didnt really want to go...they hate the big gathering dinners... my mum had a conversation with one of the ladys there...and she started putting me up on the table...she said some things in a way that did not seem true to her words...That baka lady said..."Oh..your daughter is very pretty she can even go to the HK beauty pageant...not like my daughter plain and all she does is sit at her computer and study" ^^that, there, plus the way she said it, was very negitive in meaning... which gave me and my mum a feeling like: "Oh shes just another one of those pretty dummies.." That made me really mad so i said... "Oh thankyou...but im wayyy to short to enter and my inteligence is only so-so...so therfore i don't think i can get in...but Sara (her name) over there is not plain at all...infact i think shes very cute...and smart... she can probably get in" That girl was actually a bit fat but she looks cute...(especially how she looked at us and did not understand a word...she only knows english..poor gurl with that kinda mum) I was too mad to see the look on her face...i kept on drinking my tea... I cant belive how many TYPICAL ASIAN adults there are...-ann I guess they enjoy these furious and intense conversations.... Has anyone had one of those expriences before?-lol
hahaha thats a cool story ... iv never had people say 'he looks dumb' but whenever im out with my chinese extended family waitress ladies always say i am a 'lang jai' hahahaha
yeah its normal... gets more entertaining later on... u know... wen u sit at a table, and they go oh ur son's single, my daughters single too blah blah blah... u know.. match making lolz
Yeah.. I think these types of exaggerated compliments from other Chinese MOMS/AUNTS/FEMALES especially, are typical. Even if you (not saying you, phyphy) are ugly, they'll compliment you like you're a celebrity. They'll just keep throwing compliments at you and shit to make them seem "well-mannered" .. it's very very typical of Chinese parents and I personally hate it. Lately, I attended a cousin's wedding and there was wayyyy too many of those shit happening. For example, there was this one mom.. she was consistently complimenting me on my looks, academic "successes," etc. etc. and then when I compliment her son for being very successful (her son makes like 100g+ per year), she ignores it and continues to "flatter" me. It's annoying how they overdo it.
LOL...well....i get all those exagrated comments... cuz we alwazy go yum cha...and so the people ther are really familiar with my parents...so they alwayz say..*oh lang lui ah...ney ley la* and keeps on flattering me...i have no clue y the do that...just for the tips maybe? lol
hahahaha yup and thats typical asians for ya.....gotta push the kids up....my family does that too.....like when a converstaions is running try they just put their kids on the table like one time.....my mum and aunties were running out of things to say they were just showing off their kids like "my kids gone to this uni...what about yours"
lol...ahh...i guess parents from HK will do that stuff... thats y my parents hate going to these big dinners.. they hate to listen to other people brag...but then instead of saying all these good things about me... they say the oposite...lol...like...awe...shes not pretty.. shes too short...ur daughter is perttier....and more smart... i get soo annoyed...i know ther just doing it do get out of the situation...but still...i feel bad after they say that...cuz i have a real close relationship with my parents... so i feel kinda hurt when they do that...
nah.....you just gotta learn never to take these things too seriously....'don't bai hai sum gor dou'......well i guess i've just gotten used to ignoring these snide comments nows
Meh. My parents are the same. I bring home pretty decent grades, but my parents have a friend whose daughter aces everything. My parents always tell me I should stay home and study more like the other girl. The other girl told me once that she got into a lot of trouble with her parents when she went clubbing until 3 in the morning :\ I'm really tired of my parents telling me to be someone else. It's really ironic who they want me to be like; most of those kids, even though they act polite, can fluently speak the language, and bring home good grades, are either really depressed about their life or drink and party all night.
Awe...u have the typical asian parents too? i guess those people have a really hard time... my parents do complain once in a while...like a few years ago i went home with a test paper with a 40%...lol..im dumb..lol..and they never sed that i was useless or dumb..but the bought me icecream and told me to do better...-lol LOL..dun worry..i dunt...i just do a *see mun* laugh or smile...lol..
i think that lady wants ur mom to compliment her back. Its a chinese thing to return compliments back and forth. For the waiters or waitresses, its typical bc they want more tips. Neway, just "jo yee yup, yoi yee chut". -^_^
Lol those stuff happens to me before, when I was 12...all I did is sit there and ignore them xD ....My mum will kill me for even getting a 70%...
LOL....ur ur "L" the investigator....lol..jkjk...yea.. some parents have really high expectations on thier child...which i hate...
parents do like to compare their kids with other relatives' children or friends etc.. most of the i just ignore it unless they say something that is not true an OTT..
