Charles City Iowa Police Officer Josh Douglas Gets The ‘Cop Special’ Spit Covered McDonalds Chicken Sandwich

CHARLES CITY, IOWA – A Charles City police officer is taking the world’s largest restaurant chain to court. Josh Douglas says he ordered a chicken sandwich from McDonald’s and it came to him as a “cop-special”… covered in spit.
The incident went down two years ago. Douglas was working the nightbeat as an officer and wanted to grab dinner from the Charles City McDonald’s. But inside his sandwich, he found a special sauce that wouldn’t pass any taste test.
“It was a loogie. Runny, stringy, slimy snotty loogie and it was stuck between the lettuce and tomato and you pick it up and it all kind of stays together,” Douglas said.
But luckily, a hatred of veggies kept him safe from the saliva.
“Fortunately, I don’t like lettuce. Because if I did I would have at least taken one bite before I realized what was a matter,” he said.
He and another officer went inside the restaurant and found two teenagers working. They told the police they were imitating a prank in the 2001 movie “Super Troopers”. In the movie a state trooper orders a burger at a fast food restaurant, the cook calls it a “burger for a cop”, subsequently, it gets spit on. Both the teen boys involved were fired.
Douglas began looking into criminal charges and days later got an apology from one of the boys. He got the call in his squad car and recorded it with his dashboard camera. But that apology from the teenage cook isn’t enough in Douglas’ or his attorney’s eyes.
“We’re looking for McDonald’s to step up to the plate and take responsibility,” Joel Yunek, Douglas’s attorney said.
In a written statement to KIMT News 3, Sam Soifer, the McDonald’s franchisee says his restaurant took immediate action after finding out about the incident.
“Subsequently, these employees no longer work for my organization,” he said.
He stressed McDonald’s takes food quality and safety very seriously.
“We take great pride in the food we serve our customers and set rigorous standards for food safety,” he said.
After more than a year of negotiations, no out of court settlement has been reached. On May 8th, Douglas officially filed lawsuit against the McDonald’s Corporation in Floyd County District Court. Wednesday, his Mason City based attorney would not specify what amount of money they feel would be a fair settlement.
“We’re not looking for the world, we don’t regard this as a huge thing. But certainly in my mind he is deserving of an apology. Certainly, in my mind he is deserving of some kind of compensation,” Yunek said. “He will never go into a fast food joint again for fear there will be flem in his sandwich.”
“Absolutely, absolutely. No matter what town I’m in, everything gets checked,” Douglas said.
Now, Douglas says it’s not about money as much as it is about accountability. He believes the restaurant needs to take more steps to ensure the people they hire are safe while handling food.
“If they’re employed by McDonald’s Corporation and they’re working on the job when this happens, it’s the responsibility of the mployer,” Yunek said.
As a police officer, Douglas says if he’s not willing to stand up for what’s right— who is?
“This wasn’t fair. It’s not right for you and you should stand up for yourself and do something about it,” Douglas said.
Now, it appears a Floyd County jury will decide what fair is— and if any sort of money would make these two sides even.

Funny, this guy only filed a lawsuit after TWO YEARS???
And what, he could have very well spitted on the burger himself? No solid proof... lol
Think he must be inspired by the recent condom case and thought he could make a few quick bucks as well.

BR, that would not be surprising... A few years ago on the news, there was a cop that said someone put broken glass in his burger *mickey D's again* lol and he actually bit into it and had to go to the hospital lol turned out that he was the one that did it.

Well, the boys working there admitted they were imitating a prank in a movie and one of them apologied to the cop, sounds like 'proof' enough for me? And if it was the "Runny, stringy, slimy snotty loogie" they could have the DNA of both cop and teenager tested.

I am not skimming... I am correct right? I mean, he officially filed a lawsuit after two years... What took him so long if not for trying to make some quick bucks (rather than the so-called justice) and since the negotiations failed, he finally filed the lawsuit.
