Besides looks, I'm sure most of us can agree that intelligence and/or personality are very crucial factors in a significant other. My question is, which of the 2 is more important to you, intelligence or personality?

Given these 2 examples, which individual would you prefer to be with?

(assuming that both are equally *good looking*)

    Person A
Pros: An effective, quick learner, with good social skills, a very high IQ and great knowledge in several different areas including math, science, philosophy ect.
Cons: Low EQ, average sense of humor, boastful, and lacks compassion for others in a lesser position than them in life

    Person B
Pros: A determined, creative, kind hearted and modest individual, with a very high EQ and a great sense of humor.
Cons: Low IQ, slow learner, dislikes engaging in intellectual topics, and does not have a very high educational background

Granted, there exists people who possess more or less a mixture of both A and B character traits, but in this situation let's just say you HAD TO decide between the two. Who would be your pick?

PS: THIS IS ALSO ASSUMING THAT YOU CANNOT TEACH PERSON A THE QUALITIES OF PERSON B AND VICE VERSA

My answer would be..neither. I dislike both A and B's cons equally. At first I was going to say B, but I looked at the cons and nah..I'd be single for the rest of my life if all I had were those two choices.

A person with a high EQ would definitely be great at engaging in intellectual topics.. why not??

Neither, I'd rather be single than to be with either of them (who potentially WILL shorten my lifespan one way or another)

If I had to choose, I choose person B. I don't really need a super smart girlfriend. As long as she likes my humour, is humourous herself, and kind-hearted, everything is good.

    Same here!
Person B was sounding good... until I came to the part : Slow learner, low IQ...
not so appealing after all.. lol

If I am the cheating type, I would say "Person B for marriage, Person A for affair"

Because I need an intelligently challenging conversation once in a while, but sense of humour is quite important all year round :p

Though I must say, I secretly suspect that "great sense of humour" isn't quite the type of humour which is to my taste...

I think if girls had to choose, they would choose person A. If guys have to choose, they would choose person B.

    Same again... lol
And besides person B has a low IQ so he wouldn't figure out that I am cheating on him... lol

LOL, and Person A would have IQ high enough to know that I am just knocking the good conversation off from (with) him :p

Yeah and since person A has low EQ, he wouldn't haf any qualms about having an affair instd of a proper relationship.

Totally, too bad I am not the cheating type :(

    No such benefit.

I'd rather have someone to be with than someone who can argue with me about a topic. Educational background is not important, nor the fact that he can prove Fermat's theorem.

Personality trumps all. Under all circumstances, I wouldn't want to / couldn't be happy with someone who was a complete @$$hole.

    I'm a woman and I chose B. Because I think I'm smart enough to cover for 2. -tongue2

^ Well, people with higher EQ are indeed easier to get along with...

Though the slow learner and lack of intellectual conversation is quite a turn off :(

Meh, life can't be perfect I guess...

wow .. that's a really high standard. -sweat

anyways, i think person B (if i HAVE to choose) would be a better candidate for a long term relationship.
i agree with most of the posts so far ... a lack of an intelligence would be annoying when it comes to discussing intellectual topics; however, i would pick that any day then having some arrogant prideful gf that would always correct me whenever i make a suggestion or an opinion simply b/c they are smart than me and therefore assume they know how to make a better decision.

    so. person B, i suppose.

Yeah, this question maybe divided by what sex you are.

Women typically look for partners that can be good providers (I said typically) so they may be more apt to pick A. What good is personality if you're constantly broke?

Men will choose B. Who are more apt to look for a companion rather than a co-provider.
