about their images, compared Asian guys who grew up in the western parts of the world?

like last weekend, I was at a mall in socal, and the city I visited is known for having a large percentage of taiwanese/chinese immigrants. anyway, while i was shopping, i saw something that really caught my eye. there was this really tall chinese/taiwanese guy, probably around 19-20 years old, with dyed blonde hair, and wearing a pink shirt, with dark shades (and had a VERY VERY attractive/confident smirk on his face -blush2 )..nothing too surprising there, until I looked further down and..... noticed that he was holding his mom's hand!!! -shock -unsure
i don't know about other countries, but if you're someone living in america, you'll know that this is not normal at all :p i mean if you're a 4-5 yrs old boy, then yeah, normal, but teenage guy holding his mom's hand at the mall? this is the first i've ever seen. and to honest, i actually thought it was kinda cute -noclue probably just because i've never seen it before, and the fact that he was REALLY good looking helped the cause :p what struck me was the fact that he looked really confident and not embarrassed at all.

ok ok, sorry you had to listen to all that >< but i was talking to my cousin about it when i got home and she told me that that's how most guys are in ASIA, they're a lot less self-conscious and unafraid of being considered gay/effeminate. is this true? i mean i know that in japan, the guys are known for being effeminate and all, but is this the same throughout all east asian countries?

Well, not being overly obsessive over being Macho or anything isn't a sin :p

Though I must admit the whole "holding hands with mom" thing is indeed a bit odd...

    -unsure Uhhhhh.....

There's a line between being confident/not self conscious, and being feminine/gay

^I think the OP meant self-conscious as in caring of what others would think of him holding his mommy's hand at that age... :p

are you sure that he was 19-20? asian guys tend to look alot younger than what they really are...^^

he might just have a really good relationship with his mom? it is kinda sweet that he doesn't care about what other people thinks...if it really was his mom that is...

...maybe his mom was sick and hasn't that long to live so this guy doesn't mind to show her his affection in public? (if it was his mom, for all we now it could be his sugamommy!)

I don't think holding your mom's hand while walking in the street qualified as a mommy's boy. Dude loves his mom. There's certainly nothing wrong with that.

actually in china (i don't know if in all parts), it's a common custom (just part of culture) to hold hands as a sign of friendship. just like how we think it's weird to hold your friend's hold while at the mall in america, mainland chinese think it's weird if you don't hold hands as a sign of friendship. not all mainland chinese people do this however. perhaps that guy grew up with that as a custom and that's why he wasn't embarrassed because that's part of his culture.

LOL you guys are funny :D

i would have thought it was his gf or sugarmomma too, if there wasn't an old man about the age of the woman (whom I assume to be his dad), walking right behind them. but yeah, i'm pretty sure it was his mom =P

really? that's interesting. i never knew they had such a custom. i think i need to do some more travelling hehe

in america, a lot of people think that "grown" boys shouldn't hold their parents' hands in public. but yep, i agree, i don't think there's anything wrong with it =)

hahah i don't know, she looked pretty healthy to me.

    yep that's what i ment.. -innocent2

lol it was justa guess. from the style of his hair and the way he dressed, it's like the typical chinese teenager, so i assumed him to be around 19-20. and yeah, it was sweet -blush

Hmm....holding mummy's hand...a little weird there. I think he was just a rare case you saw. I hardly see anyone that age doing that
