Nice, I don't know how to cook crab or lobster (in fact that's a lie, I do know how to cook lobster, though I am impartial to crab so never quite bother with it :p)

I love cooking mussels and shrimps, and of course, fish of various kind, fresh from the market, no frozen shrimps for me -nono

Nice, I don't usually do a lot of baking (beside the obvious cake and such) since the electricity bill is going to be a b*tch to pay if I just go on with lasgna and other baked dish :(

I used to make beef ball (ngau yun) and other meat balls ;) Not anymore as I don't have the freezer space to deep freeze them before storing :(

I said foolproof in the sense that it's kind of difficult to screw up once you get the congee base right...

There's still levels of tastiness :p

@The_Jelly: Practice makes perfect... It just takes practice to make good food, if you rely on other's cooking, one day you'll end up starved to death -mellow

LOL, I did that with House all the time when it was airing...

And sometimes I impose arbitrary schedule for myself:

    Need to sleep before 12am
Have to see a 2 hour film before I sleep tonight, plus 30 mins for bath and all
= have to finish cooking before 9:30pm :p

i think the easiest way to cook is using a oven for baking or doin a roast
just prep everything up and put in the oven wait for 45min to 1h and its done
like doing a roast chiken with potatoes and other vegetable in one tray, everything will be done in 45min to 75min(depends on the size of the chicken). the vegetable will soak the juices from the chicken.... try it
and making soup is also good
just chuck everything in ad let it cook in low heat for couple of hours and its done
the meat, overly cooked like pork, u can dip it in soy sauce and serve it with rice
if u need any vegetable just cooked it in that pot of soup
its less oily than stir frying it
by the time u used to cooking u will actually realise u saved quite some money
rather than goin out and eat

if you create presentable and edible dishes does that mean you can cook? well plus that and a couple of dishes :p

Depends on what are the presentable and edible dishes you are talking about... I've had a friend who can make 5 variations from the very same bag of instant noodle. But THAT particular fact do not make me think she can cook... Althought she CAN cook, any Chinese dish under the sun with a name, she can probably make that (given she can get a hold of the ingredients)
