It's not that bad!!!! Skip the Red Light District or only go there with a local who can show you around. :)

vienna has nicer gardens and florence is more beautiful. but i like paris best because of the atmosphere. dunno how to explain it exactly. it's the food + the lifestyle + the people, not the monuments. mostly the ppl, i think, that influenced me. i know ppl say parisians are snobby, rude and whatnot (even french ppl outside of paris say that, lol), but i honestly had the best time interacting with them.

i was, however, communicating in paris in french, or at least trying to (with much more success than italian or german or czech, lol. especially czech). sooo, that probably contributed to my enjoying the ppl and appreciating everything going around me much more. just something about how they take time out to relax in their parks and sip expressos on the patios. something about how they make the effort to make simple streetside crepes delicious. something about how their gardens are not as pretty as vienna's, but they allow toddlers to roam freely and explore with their beloved stuffed animals under their arm. something about how at 8am, the streets are filled with parents in armani suits, no briefcase in sight, but 4 dora and buzz lightyear backpacks on their shoulders, bringing their kids to school. somthing about those same parents strolling on the streets or waiting for the metro, but never seeming to actually enter an office building to work. something about how a few hundred ppl just gather on the steps of sacre coeur to sing on a saturday night. something about the city that celebrates a presidential election with english classics. something about an eclectic city filled with people who are genuinely enjoying their life. something, i guess.

(i'll end my obsessive rant now...) -blush

LOL ok, I guess you like the sphere of the Paris life. :D

I had the same feeling in Barcelona, pretty much the same what you've said about Paris. I think people in France and the countries south of it like Spain and Italy will make time free for family life and enjoying thier meals.

I didn't like it because of the boring grey city and the monuments weren't as impressive as I've thought. Yep, people being rude and they have a lot of immigrants who erm, aren't all walking the right path so to say. The only thing I loved about Paris were their crêpes and the art museums. :)

i thot ur barcelona pics were really nice, actuallie.... someday, i'll go to spain :D

i actually didnt feel that family thing going on as strongly as italy..... which is funny, considering i was in rome during family day, where a million were celebrating the essense of family -sweat

if the french monuments didnt impress u... did versailles? if and when u ever go back to paris, i think u wont find a more glamorous chateaux as versailles... but what really impressed me is if u take a train (the cheap way) or coach tour (bloody expensive!) out to the loire valley to visit the other chateaux... they're gorgeous.
