    hi
my parents always say that i shouldnt buy cheap sunglasses because they arent good for eyes..
but when u think, sunglasses arent like the normal glasses u wear when u have problems with the eyes. sunglasses have only UVp-Protection... so what do u think? are they really bad for the eyes ?

well if ur in aust, would recommend to get something decent, doesn't haf to be proper brand names
reason is the sun, we got crazy amt of sun here... so of course theres the possiblity of damage to the eyes
something with uv protection would help, hafing uv is better than not

but if ur somewhere that has minimal sun and relatively less uv, then i'd say it doesn't matter

They are not, that's the reason why I only buy my sunglasses from reliable brands or camping equipment stores... If something is advertised as "suitable for skiing use", the UVprotection is good enough.

In fact, anywhere with lots of snow would make good sunglasses necessary, the snow reflects the sunlight, which can cause damage to your retina...

I remember that there is already a sunglasses thread

But it's not exactly talking about the same thing... This one is about the merit of brand-name/super-expensive sunglasses...

Sometimes it's not by choice... when it snows, the snow reflect the sunlight; when you are at the beach, the water reflects the sunlight...

There are tons of ways to have your eyes damaged by sunlight besides glaring at the sun directly... -mellow

But I think cheap sunglasses wont have a good protection as a proper one. The polarised lenses will be weaker maybe.

it's all based on UV protection

so usually sunglasses that are like in the 20$ USD is fine
but dont be going to a dollar shop and expecting good eye protection

so you dont need to be spending 200$USD on Gucci glasses (unless you need to be stylish, which ~cough~ i admit i have opted for that additional benifit)

Cheap ones are not bad for your eyes...cheap sunglasses are just not as good as expensive sunglasses because of the UV-proteciton (well that's what I think - expensive ones would have better UV-protection)....

As long as you like them, it's fine

I guess to be on the safe side, buy a decent pair of sunglasses....but sometimes those branded ones are just way too expensive. Don't even know if the branded ones are really better but I'm pretty sure a good portion of the money just goes to pay for the brand name.

hmm i think there is a difference... but not too much ... like when i was shopping for sunglasses and i tried on a pair of branded sunglasses i could tell the difference like it's more firm and the lens are more... dark so i guess like it protects ur from UV more... but otherwise... i don't think it makes a big difference =S

hmm i would say... expensive ones... cos they are guaranteed to be UV protection.. wheras cheaper ones might just not block out the UV as much.. plus the expensive ones looks better
