i got a conference today and they were talking about the criminals, their status etc... the she said that their was a quote 'Criminals are born Criminals'. what do you think? it sound weird for me,i think these people learned to be like this but i may say that perhaps very little are born like this
i say its rubbish. criminals are born when a crime is committed. criminals are born when there is actus reas and mens rea. the action, and the intent of committing an act.
Well, maybe they have gotten used to stealing and are addicted to it? They may have seen their parents do this and got this habit.
babies are born innocent to the ways of the world, but the media puts an end to that and you can raise your child perfectly but all it takes is one person to mess it all up.
I don't think they are exactly "born criminals", but I do consider some people who will pick up the habit/life of crime (via socialization) more readily. It's not in their gene, that criminal minds, per se, but it is their gene which led them to be more suseptible to criminal acts... And I never think baby are born innocent, given that they are the most greedy and selfish beings in the whole wide world.
Naw, you are still punishable for your crime, just that you may serve life in an Asylum instead of a prison -whistle
nooo..i was born to go to prison....asylum is more for you....thers a good one in downtown near chinatown..u want me to sign u up? =p
no i don't think anyone is born a criminal, its one of those nature vs. nurture concepts and i think you can't be a criminal by nature. theres a saying, "it takes a day to turn evil, but it takes ten years to do good" something along the lines of that, but i think people who turn to criminals are either just lazy or really have no choice in their society.
Impressive... My minion speaking of law here... Well, generally, I believe that criminals are not bornt, but they can be 'cultivated' from the environment. Meaning, the circumstances they are bornt into, the people they mix around with, their upbringing, that more or less, do make a big difference in how a person turn out to be. Their upbringing is important to influence in how they would think thus their mens rea.
Hard to tell...some researchers do claim that some criminals are born with a 'bad gene' or that a certain part of their brains are causing the problems and shaping the criminals how they are now like (Law & Order info...) but I think it's only a minor of those who are 'born criminal' but the majority of the thugs are products of their (lack of) upbringing and wrong environment i.e. wrong 'friends' and not getting or not taking chances offered to them.
^ There seems to be some truth to the gene which are defective or malformed causing ppl to have certain behaviors.
Yeah I believe that too, but on the same time I do think it's dangerous to make general statements that a all or a lot or half of the criminals are born with a malfunction already. Researchers should do longer and more research on this subject otherwise every laywer is going to use this as an excuse to get their clients free or trying to lower their punishments.
Naw, too smart to be locked up... On the other hand, once it is publicly accepted that gene does play a part in a person's criminal instinct (play a part does not necessary means automatically goes to do criminal act), then lawyers can use that to convict the criminal for longer sentence due to their potential harm to the society... Inhumane, yes, but effective.
It could be...and an other possible side effect is that some people (politicians?) want to forbid people to reproduce if they carry that gene...in my own personal view that would be a good thing but I guess from the aspect of human rights it's not a good thing?
