hi guys.. i'm new to PA and this is my first post:

Q: why is it creepy/perverted for a 'not-so-cute' guy to approach a girl and it's okay for a cute guy to approach them? is that some kind of double standard? are you saying 'not-so-cute' guys can't meet someone that catches their eyes/attention?

    (btw.. hilarious thread!)

Of course, it applies to everything... So MAV understand what I meant? Good, it means that this particular pinyin doesn't suck too much... -tongue2

It IS quite hilarious, this thread, isn't it -lol

Anyways, in fact I think guys who approach girls are creepy (but not quite so perverted, unless he LOOKS like he is perverted), just that I got distracted if the guy is cute. Doesn't mean that it's not creepy!!! It IS creepy, but I forgot about the creepy part :p

umm.. so when is it okay to approach a girl? never? so you'll just let a cute girl that you've noticed just walk away from your life and have to regret it forever? i hate the feeling of regret.. worst feeling ever!

well.. if e guy is unsure, use eye contact to tell: if e guy looks intently at the eyes then e lips and back.. its kinda hinting tat he wants to kiss.. (not stare.. but jus good and deliberate eye contact) n if e gal doesnt turn away then.. she is either ready to kiss.. or really slow. haha..

That's why MAV said you need high EQ to handle that... Either being labelled as a creep or regretting not trying... your choice -whistle

Or she's staring at the food on your face -lol

but my follow up question is:
can a guy approach a girl and introduce himself and try to get to know her w/o seeming like a creep or making the situation creepy?

It's a matter of whether he's able to pull it off. Honestly, I don't usually find guys who approach girls creepy until the point when he kind of got too aggressive/eager (asking for numbers and whatnot)

Sometimes you'll just have to accept that you've had a good talk and let the rest play itself out...

haha.. so if you had a good talk and walk your separate ways again.. it's like starting from square one and not even have approached the girl in the first place =/
do you think it's fair for a guy to give the girl his number and have her call him whenever she's ready. that way he won't seem too aggressive and it leaves the ball in her hands. so if she wants to see him for coffee, bbt or whatever, she can call him.. if not, then the guy knows there's no interest and also no regrets.

If only it was that easy... Sadly it isn't.

I think almost all girls would agree that a guy's first impression is very important. So my question is if a guy somehow accidentally made a horrible first impression of himself, how long would it take for a girl to forget that first impression and accept the guy's true self?

LOL, if only it's that easy. I personally would recommend exchanging email or something since phone number feel overly personal for a person you've only met once. Facebook would work, or so I've heard (but am not sure about social networking sites).. :D

Depends on how horrible the first impresion is... would you mind giving some example of coincidentally horrible first impressions?

exchanging emails sounds like a good idea... i'll have to try it out and let you know =)

Q: does sense of humour work in breaking the ice when meeting a girl?

LOL depends on the girl. Not everyone enjoy American Pie style jokes (yes, I am old fashioned in many many ways)

okay.. pretend you're at a bbt cafe with your friends and there's an empty chair and a guy comes up and asks you if the seat is taken.. then you say "no" and the guy proceeds to just sit down right there and join your conversation... is that a good way of breaking the ice and meet someone? (in your opinion, cause i know every girl is different..)

No. Unless he writes like a girl and always adda heart on the -i- instead of a dot/stripe. That could be a sign he one day will will say: "Honey, I have something to tell you..."

Guess a written one is always better as you can get an idea what kind of personality the writer has. The handwriting often does say something about the writer.

    ^
Same here! Everything or nothing at all. No use to invest in a relationship if both aren't sure of a future together.

It depends on what the conversation was about before you joined in; if they were talking about serious stuff like someone's passed away or something like that, you would make a fool of yourself, but if they were having a casual talk I guess it's a good way to break the ice yeah.

Usually those creepy/perverted guys we are referring to, are those who have this kind of weird look in their eyes, the way they look at you, their body language. It could also be because since they are not so cute, therefore they are not self-confident thus their nervousness may be giving out the wrong signals.
Hilarious? I bet... since most of the questions are silly coming from a particular someone -rolleyes

Yes! It is OKAY to approach a girl, just not FORCE YOURSELF on that girl, if she does not take a liking to you :p

It's hard to give you an exact situation, because there are indeed many situations where you can approach a girl without appearing like a creep. The most important thing is try not to pretend to be someone else, try not to fret over it, it's just an approach for conversation for God's sake, not some interview for husband-to-be.
Hmm, I don't know. I don't usually call guys haha.

Yep, EMAIL or MSN would be a good idea.
Yes, sense of humor does help, provided your idea of a joke is funny to the girl as well.
TBH, no guy has done that to me before , but I think that's an interesting idea -^_^

i don't know.. personally, (if it was a complete stranger) i'd probably look at him weird and throw my friends glances like "what is this guy doing?" but i'm not the type to just chat with complete strangers. if i'm introduced to him, sure (or at least seen him before or something).
