Hey Guys...maybe its a bit early for this question...But i still want to raise this one...

As you definately know .... The Beijing Olympics are next year summer ...
the horseracing part will take place in Hong Kong!

I was wondering...prices of airline tickets are always up in the High Season...normally already due to high demand ....

What will be the influence of the Olympic Games??? Overbooked flights? Not enough capacity? do u guys think there willl be additional capacity? How early should be book this year...while anticipating the Olympics?

Will the Olympics lead to Abnormally high prices for flights during the summer 2008??

    Any idea's about this?

I am not certain about it... But I would expect the tickets to be slightly more expensive than usual...

And if you plan to return to Hong Kong or visit China, book early becaues the tickets are BOUND to be selling like hot cakes...

yeah...i just started thinking about this.... wasn't something similar happening in 1997(handover) ?? many people rushing back? maybe not really comparabel since its a century back.... do u know still remember somtehing from that time?? (for me its long long time ago)

and a flux of tourists will also drive hotel prices and other retail things in HK and China up up up....

    hmmm...time for reconsidering vaction 2008??

The tickets should be at high demand.. it IS the olympics.. so therefore expensive.. i suggest you book ..like.. NOW lol jks jks.. ofcourse booking earlier the better.. just incase you run out of luck. I'm guessing there will be alot of people there if thats what you mean by "influence" It IS when practically everyone gathers there. Gambles/ horse racers/ rich people :D so yea.. book quick!

I think it will probably affect it since merchants know that ppl will eventually pay to go see the games.

Hmmm, it also depends on your locale. There are places which have daily direct flights to Hong Kong and Beijing from a handful of airlines, those should not be affected as bad due to the abundance of seats.

But for sure the retail and accommodation will be expensive so be prepared to poke a hole in your finance -sweat Althought I personally suspect that Hong Kong will not be affected as bad (since Beijing is not THAT close to Hong Kong...)

Yes, everything will be more expensive in China and the surrounding areas including HK. That's why I am so pissed I am not going back this year. All my friends are going back to HK this year for such ridiculously low prices, more than $500CDN off the regular price. >..<

    oh duh...of course...
according to one short tvb show after the news, no single olympic has ever made a profit, all end up loosing money and that will all be delivered to residents of that area with increase of taxes

thats how china's gonna make a bit more money...but if u order tickets like in 07, or start of 08 the price still should b ok....but u like have to arrive 1-2 months b4 the olympics start...problem if u have school/work unless u get leave

Maybe it's true that not a single city which hosted the Olympic had made a profit, but it is not ONLY from the Olympic does the city benefit from, but by hosting an Olympic games, the city put itself on the World Map internationally, the Olympic venues often become touristic spots and tourism (and in turn various other curstomer service industries) would soar...

It's like the World Expo, the event itself may not benefit the hosting city directly rightaway, but it brings media exposure to the city and in turn gives the city a chance to move up the international fame ladder...

well beijing olympics is in summer and prices are already at peak, due to all the students going home

and then they know the tourists will be going too, so that can only again increase prices,

although because of the olympics you may see special deals that arent usually there

well i assume is the same every where, not to mention china and HK, i think no matter when the olympics held, that country or places will increase in prices. not only the air ticket, the hotel, the food and those shopping center will increase price at the same times.
of cos we can complain but when u r there , u still need a place to stay and eat, so there are demand and therefore the supply of high price of thing is still there .. provided nobody go and watch it .. but that is impossible right..
so if you wanna go at the time, save up your money !!

    haha...thats an option...which i never considered....vietnam , don't u need additional visa for that place >.<
then for me its easier to go Frankfurt by train or something....and then take the plane...instead from a'dam
