PALMDALE, Calif. (June 30) - A mother faces firearms charges after she allegedly drove her son's friends to a rival gang member's house to take part in a shooting, authorities said.

Michelle Wright, 37, pleaded not guilty Thursday to three counts of assault with a firearm and one count of shooting a firearm at a dwelling, said Los Angeles County sheriff's Detective Robert Gillis on Friday. She was held on $250,000 bail.

Wright drove her son's two friends to a rival gang member's house in Palmdale early Tuesday, authorities said. One of the son's friends got out and fired at a bedroom window before the three drove away.

Two small children and a teen were in the room, but no one was injured.

Detectives acting on a tip arrested the woman's son and the gunman, Gillis said. Authorities recovered a shotgun they suspect was used in the shooting, he said.

Wright told authorities she drove her son's friends to do the shooting because she believed police were not doing enough to stop gang members from harassing her children, Gillis said.

Wright's son and the two other teens, whom authorities have accused of being members of a street gang, were charged and held in juvenile custody.

An attorney representing Wright could not be located, and her phone number was unlisted.

some pretty crazy shit happening here, but it might be a killed or be killed situation.

Hmm, we don't know what the exact story is behind this...it might be a decent family trying to survive a 'kill or get killed' situation or...and this is what I somehow think is a more likely possibility; that mom isn't exactly a good example for her own kid and her son is indeed a gangmember.

that's what i think.. if cops and gang units can't fix the solution with something that could happen immediately, they aren't doing their job.. but.. is palmdale=/

I guess I would understand that they had to do something to stop harassment. But if that's the case, then the police there suck -nono

Wonder what situations would cause the mother to do such a drastic measure.

lol yes.. What a good mother...<_< Reminds me of a "mother" in the news that gave her son a gun to take to school in order to settle the score with some kid that had beaten him up the day before..

but if the local authorities can't help after civilians have already try to ask multiple times, what can they do?? maybe not in this case, but if you are in immediate harm, ppl have to defend themselves somehow.. when the law enforcement has fail already

Desperation. All mothers wants to protect their offsprings/children. Most does it in a "civilized" and law-based method and there are others that are a bit more "unorthodox" and unethical in their ways. In this case, i would assume that the mother, herself, grew up in a bad neighborhood with the influences of gangs and the lack of police authorities. Therefore, in her eyes, it would be a legitimate answer on her part to protect her child from another abusive and possibly deadly gang.

Which was to give an "pre-emptive" strike on another gang. however, this story reminds me of the quote from Gandhi - "An eye for eye makes the whole world blind."

so, true. it is ironic, that the mother thinks that she is helping her children with the wars of the gangs, when actually she is making it worse.

Back in the old days, if you has a problem with someone just challenge them to a duel. No need to shoot their house/family up.
